It was an engaging first day at the CII - Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) 's 
5th IGBC Data Center Summit 2025. 

The summit was successfully hosted, bringing together a distinguished lineup of speakers and thought leaders from across India. The event featured insightful discussions by state government officials, policy makers, academicians, and leading industry representatives from the data center ecosystem. The summit so far served as a collaborative platform to explore the future of sustainable and energy-efficient data centers, highlighting emerging technologies, green certification frameworks, and policy pathways that align with India’s vision for a low-carbon digital economy.  

Coincidentally, yesterday marked a major announcement from Google, revealing its plans to invest in a data center in Visakhapatnam (Vizag).

Sources also suggest that Meta may soon announce similar investments in the region’s data center space. This development is strong validation that the AI revolution depends heavily on robust infrastructure, particularly advanced and energy-efficient data centers.

Insights from #expandnext project inventory
Few key pointers in the data center technology for NA/ global market:

1. Power grids need to scale the supply of copper and aluminum more than double to sustain both the data center boom

2. Per McKinsey, capExp to support AI-related data center  capacity demand could range from $3T - $8T by 20230

3. AI investment needs to earn 3 times/ year to breakeven the data center costs. EX-  30MW data center costs around $300M to build, and needs to make $100M/year to breakeven in 3 years

4.  Colocation of a data center is often a strategic decision to place it near a reliable and high-capacity power source, such as a power plant, to ensure continuous operation and reduce costs

A pretentious big daddy analyst who runs a research firm based in US deleted a post after a comment ( which got likes and views from same industry) which did not suit their social media narrative on how AI change the consulting and research landscape ...

Mr. Big daddy posts only to get validation from bunch of people he influences throwing get-together parties at the same time top folks needs validation of what they doing which are mostly 'on trial'. Win win for both sides 

conclusion:
An analyst firm with better personal relationships at the CXO level isn’t necessarily a better analyst. As per experienced folks, chatting with a senior executive over the weekend is very different from conducting primary research with a line manager.

Did we come a long way?

Creators are like farmers in the digital economy, planting content seeds, nurturing communities, and harvesting engagement.
Just as farmers depend on land, weather, and ecosystems, creators depend on algorithms, attention spans, watch time and platform economics.
Engagement is the new “crop,” and platforms + advertisers are the ones who buy it.

Now the context is set

The retention business works for content creators partly because of joblessness in society, also because the current generation has financial backups in the form of generational wealth, assets, etc. It also works because the creator community loves and appreciates it. The algorithm rewards community content creators with winning moments...and so does YouTube, and so do advertisers.

The moat is not always the product itself. It often starts with creating engaging videos and constantly showing what the founder / creator  "doing something today" , we are building.’ This work-in-progress content is highly strategic, which drives engagement and follows the binge-worthy formula.
There are videos showcasing the journey, while the actual product is built somewhere by someone else.  AI makes it even more easy and fast. 

That’s okay, as long as you reach your objective.
