Here are the top 3 questions/answers marketers hate the most, during the FIRST call with a new client:


1) How many leads can we get with $X per month?

🧝‍♀️ We can't know. 
If your analytics is empty, you haven't been running any ads we can look at, and you have no marketing report telling us what you did, how much you've spent, and the results you got with such activity, we can't possibly say. 

We have to start from zero.

2) We tried Z but didn't work. (Z being any activity you propose, most of the times Z is advertising).

🤓My question usually is: did an expert try Z? Spoiler: no.
Advertising is apparently easy to set up by yourself, because as long as the platforms can make money with it, they're happy. 

What you're probably missing is the right audience, bidding, creative, goal, tracking - and these are  everything.

3) We want to start with Y, then if it works we can do everything else. 

You can't start with any marketing activity if you can't answer these questions: 

- What's your position on the market?
- Who are your competitors? 
- What's your USP? 
- Pricing (Model)?
- Budget? 
- Team?

Also, number 3) is Y, because that's the question we ask ourselves after hearing "we don't know" to each of the questions above. Why? 
Don't get me wrong, it's fair to not know those things if you're just starting. 

But then let us start from there, rather than X,Y or Z.

Is organic or advertised traffic better? 

The answer, as you can imagine, is "it depends".

👉 Organic content stays and keeps working also months after you stopped posting. Paid advertising stops working as soon as you stop the ads. 

👉 Organic content needs more time to take off. Paid advertising works immediately.

👉 Organic content targets your audience or keyword-based interests. Paid advertising has more targeting possibilities, going from interest-based to intention-based, allowing to also play with audience expansion or narrowing.

👉 Organic content generally focuses on brand awareness recording fewer conversions, later, while with paid advertising you can record more and faster conversions.

In both cases, it's important to choose the right platforms, approach, and create a strategy that is based on your ideal customer persona(s).

The final decision is merely based on the budget you have, the conversion urgency, and the resources: ideally you want to work on both strategies at the same time, but your budget, time and resources don't always allow it.

Always start a new Marketing test knowing it's a test, with no assumptions. 

This will allow you to be more cautious and have a more generic approach, targeting, and expectations. 

New tests also help you discover new strategies, channels, and audiences, not only get new customers. 

This said, don't put all your budget in testing only. Keep doing what's been working so far, and only test using 10-20% of your budget.
