Taking a step into product innovation and development, I took on a new challenge in building a Live Commerce Platform with Daraz, a part of the Alibaba Group, to revolutionize how we shop online. 

As Head of Live Commerce, I was entrusted with creating a model that collaborates the traditional eCommerce journey into something vivid, exciting and entertaining. Live Commerce brings life to your shopping and sets the foundation for nurturing a new wave in the creator economy. 

Building Sri Lanka's business case in showcasing Live Commerce's potential in the market and attracting brands and sellers onto the platform within Daraz 

Growing the active sellers and brands by 3X and creating value for the streamers that come alive on the platform 

Integrating growth strategies to scale up the platform in 6 months in the region through aggressive acquisitions and incentives 

Creating the pathway for customer acquisition and building awareness and marketing strategies to increase faith and returning users

The next step in evolution for a startup that envisioned becoming a sports media brand in the country became a reality. I was fortunate to shape the next steps of the journey under the new direction of Dialog Axiata, under the Axiata Group, Malaysia, as Product Manager, heavily involved in building the right product and strategizing the journey. 

In this pursuit, the first few years were built around trying and testing what worked well and taking steps in further developing the business division to optimize our reach on the roadmap to become the country's premier brand. 

-Growing the business domain from a $100,000 business model to scale up 10X in 3 years with multiple disciplines integrated within the model, setting the platform for revenue generation

-Building a product that was heavily optimized to the key target market, building a 360-degree strategy that catered to all of their needs, including Live streaming, Digital Content, Written content and video production 

-Pioneering outreach programs to expand the verticals, attract major markets through local language optimization, and devise marketing strategies to build the following 

-Key driver in devising the business's USP, Live Sports Production and Broadcasting, uplifting local sports leagues to unprecedented levels, a first of its kind in the country 

-Diversifying the media channel's approach to event ownership and management, bringing in sponsorships of the top leagues in the country with support from the master brand of Axiata to grow and monetize

Finally, piloting the next step in the business roadmap to monetize Live Content produced, with product development in introducing a pay-per-view system that integrates with OTT platforms to drive revenue.

After graduating from my role as a part-time journalist, the opportunity arrived with ThePapare.com being acquired by Dialog Axiata as a digital product due to its disruptive and innovative nature to expand and grow to be a top-tier media brand in the country. 

My role as a Journalist/ Lead involved taking the first steps towards acquiring market share, which was once held by mainstream news brands whose priority did not lie in sports. 

-Growing the business domain in the first years, acquiring reporting and live content producing on a large scale, penetrating mass markets 

-Widening our distribution platforms with the advent of digital and social channels to deliver effective and impactful content to cater to a four million+ audience

-Developing sports reporting domains towards live streaming and live content production to bring top-tier sports leagues

ThePapare was a startup that saw a space in the local media industry to cater to enthusiastic sports fans whose only space to follow sports was the quarter page of local daily newspapers.

Since being a freelance journalist at 15, I have always looked at things differently from the rest and carved out my path. This helped me understand my true potential and bring out my true self in what I do. 

In my 6+ years in Media, Advertising, Marketing, and Communications, I've had the fortune of doing what I love and telling the world what I feel – wearing the different hats of a Content Creator, Digital Marketer, Copywriter, Campaign Manager, and Communications Manager.
