• As a kid, I lived in a 29-foot trailer in rural Pennsylvania 
• My first sales job was selling factory second welcome matts at a flea market 
• I spent 25 years as an expat living on 4 continents 
• I ran my second marathon at 45, and I bench pressed 315 at age 50 
• I walk my corgi by the beach virtually every morning to see the sunrise

It seemed like the Nile in Cairo would be a great place to spread some of my dad's ashes.

I considered actually inside one of the pharaonic tombs, or inside the great pyramid, it would be cool to think of my dad's ashes deep inside one of the oldest buildings in the world for eternity, but, the historic importance of the Nile as a body of water and focus of a great civilization won out. 

I was in town for a meeting with  senior person at the Ministry of Health, and that went well. 

Then, I took my dad to the Cairo museum, to see the Narmer Palette and king Tut; one of my favorite bars in the world is the billiard  room at the Omay Kyam hotel on the Nile, so we had a drink there.
 
We had a water pipe overlooking the pyramids, and went to the Cairo Opera house, the oldest opera house in Africa, to hear the Egyptian National orchestra play a concert of Um Khaltum (possibly the best known Egyptian Diva) music. 

At about midnight, I walked onto a bridge on the Nile. 

It was me and a few young courting couples. I poured out about 3 ounces of my dad's ashes. 

The wind was a little rough, and i ended up liberally dusted in my dark gray linen suit with ash. 

a young man, half of a canoodling couple, yelled at me. 

I suddenly realized that a foreigner pouring an unknown powder into the primary water source of Egypt might not look so innocent, so I smiled my best "I'm just an idiot, pay me no mind" smile and started to walk quickly away. 

he yelled, and caught the attention of most of the men on the bridge, and they all started walking in my direction. I broke into a light trot, and they sped up too.. 

I ended up at a full run though Tahrir square, cutting though a few alleys and circling round, crossing the next bridge and getting to my hotel. 

I did not really want to have to explain to the police what i was doing. 

More fun with Dad!
