South Africa Discovers Rare 42-Carat Blue Diamond Worth Millions of Dollars 

A rare blue diamond weighing nearly 42 carats has been discovered in South Africa. 

The blue diamond was found at the Cullinan Mine in Pretoria. 

Experts say it is worth $40 million. 

The gemstone belongs to the ultra-rare Type IIb category, which accounts for less than 0.1 per cent of all natural diamonds in the world. 

Blue diamonds are among the most valuable in the global diamond market due to their rarity and scientific properties, including electrical conductivity.

The 42-carat blue diamond will be presented at a major international auction later this year.

Long-term Goal

My long-term goal is to reduce startup failure rates in Africa to 2% by 2030. To achieve this, I have set myself the purpose of being among the top 3 best startup consultants in Africa by then.

I plan on achieving my goals by continuously honing my skills and acquiring new ones, as well as developing core competencies that are unique to me alone. I will do this through constant research, reading, and hands-on experience.

By the end of 2030, I intend to be an expert consultant with a good reputation who has advised more than 5000 startups and mentored at least 50 incubator programs for entrepreneurs.

Medium-Term Goal

My medium-term goal is to gain admission into Harvard Business School (HBS) to offer an MBA-Marketing course on scholarship by 2024.
I have three main reasons for wanting to reach this goal:

1. I want to get the skills and experience I need to launch my business consulting startup.

2. I also want to meet the co-founders and investors I need to build my company.

3. Finally, I want an opportunity to change Africa's attitudes about working for startups and building businesses from scratch.

The world most followed TikTok creator Khaby Lame has just sold a major part of his company for $900M

He’s basically selling the commercial rights to his business activities for the next 3 years through his company Step Distinctive Ltd.

Khaby Lame's net worth was estimated at around $20 million prior to the deal, based on 2025 reports from Forbes and others. The $900M acquisition of his company Step Distinctive Ltd. (where he owns 49%) is an all-stock deal, potentially adding about $441M to his net worth, bringing it to roughly $460M, though exact value depends on stock performance.

Africa’s aviation map is about to change ✈️🌍

Ethiopian Airlines has officially launched construction of the $12.5 billion Bishoftu International Airport, a mega project expected to become Africa’s largest airport by 2030.

Located 45 km southeast of Addis Ababa, the four-runway airport will handle up to 110 million passengers annually and park 270 aircraft, easing pressure on the already stretched Bole International Airport.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed described the project as the largest aviation infrastructure development in Africa’s history. 

Ethiopian Airlines will fund 30% of the project, with global lenders financing the rest. The African Development Bank has already committed $500 million, with strong interest from partners across the Middle East, Europe, China, and the United States.

Earthworks are underway, with main construction scheduled to begin in August 2026.

Sir Arthur Lewis was born #OnThisDay in 1915. Throughout his career, Lewis worked as a consultant to a number of governments and was particularly interested in the problems of developing countries. He also held various posts at Princeton University, where he was the first person of African heritage to hold a chair. 

In 1970, Lewis became the first president of the Caribbean Development Bank. Caribbean Development Bank was created as a financial institution that invests in social and economic development for its borrowing member countries, such as Haiti, Grenada and Saint Lucia. 

Lewis shared the 1979 prize in economic sciences with Theodore Schultz "for their pioneering research into economic development research with particular consideration of the problems of developing countries."

Ethiopia has announced plans to print its own currency locally, moving to end its reliance on foreign firms like the UK-based De La Rue. The initiative, overseen by the state-owned Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), is aimed at strengthening economic sovereignty and reducing high printing and shipping costs and risks associated with producing banknotes abroad. .

Speaking at the Finance Forward Ethiopia 2026 conference, Abiy said the state-owned asset manager would take on the role as part of a broader strategy to establish key national capabilities under public ownership.

The prime minister said the initiative would form one of several strategic functions to be developed by Ethiopian Investment Holdings, which oversees the government’s commercial enterprises.

“The institution will build many key, untold strategic arms,” he told participants.

Abiy added that the scale of the holding company is expected to expand significantly over the coming years, with its contribution to gross domestic product projected to reach 20 percent by 2030.
