To be fair, I can’t blame VCs too much. Like most companies, they’ve been burned by the AI bubble.

Check out this quote:

“Despite $30–40 billion in enterprise investment in generative artificial intelligence, AI pilot failure is officially the norm — 95% of corporate AI initiatives show zero return, according to a sobering report by MIT’s Media Lab.”

The pain is real. It’s also one of the reasons we went the other way and built our own model…but that’s not what this post is about.

First, I need to apologize to the LinkedIn algorithm for not posting more often. I'm sorry, dude, but it takes me longer to process my thoughts and put them into words. So, I'm counting on my network to prove you wrong.

Now that we've cleared that up, let's talk about some dark stuff. Anxiety. Pressure. That quiet feeling of dread that no one on LinkedIn really wants to admit.

I don't know how it is for other founders, but I have this deep phobia of disappointing our investors. And the further we go, the stronger it gets. 

I know what we're building is needed, and I know our investors believe in us, but still, every day that brings us closer to our Alpha release (this week), I feel that pressure tightening.

It shows up in small ways. I stay up late staring at the ceiling, replaying product decisions in my head. I forget to eat sometimes because I'm too caught up thinking about what's next (which reminds me as I am typing this post, I forgot to eat...again). 

It's like my brain doesn't know how to shut off anymore.

It really hit me this week when we started talking with our "big checks" investors. 

I'm confident in what we're doing (in the product, the tech, the GTM), but the thought of someone trusting me with their money still makes my stomach drop. It's not fear of failure. It's the fear of letting people down.

Maybe it's just me. Maybe it's not. Either way, it's part of the job no one prepares you for.

We'll have some exciting updates to share this week. But for now, I just needed to get this out of my system.

I debated for a moment before posting this, but I think it’s worth sharing.

A private investor called us a scam without even meeting us.

His “due diligence” looked like this:

1. “I couldn’t find any information about the CTO online.”

2. “I looked at the CEO’s Twitter and didn’t like his tweets.”

3. “The model sounds too complex, and based on the team photos (yes, he actually said that!!), they can’t possibly build it.”

And now, the actual facts:

1. If he knew how to search properly, he would have found three patents registered under our CTO’s name and more than a dozen peer-reviewed academic papers.

2. I’m sorry he doesn’t like my tweets (not really), but personal opinions don’t define the ability to build and lead a company.

3. The model is built, and it works. Though perhaps I’ll change my haircut in the photo next time if that helps.

I honestly don’t know how to respond to this level of absurdity. 

To dismiss years of work, research, and a live product based on a few Google searches and someone’s hairstyle is beyond words.

We wouldn’t have taken his money even if he had come around and offered it.

Here’s what he never asked about:
 • Our POC tech thesis • To actually see the product • A meeting with the team

There’s nothing more embarrassing than someone who tries to sound smart but ends up exposing how little they understand.

Future investors, don’t rely on Google searches or haircuts. 

Come see what we’re building, talk to the team, and judge us by what we build.

When we first started our journey, we met with many VCs.
It was a big waste of everyone's time, as we were too early. 

But those conversations revealed something much deeper: a huge gap in understanding the AI field.

While the whole world was racing in one direction--throwing billions into LLM-based wrappers that now sit in the graveyard of failed startups--we took a slower, harder path: 

We built our own model from the ground up. 

To achieve this, we had to dive into a world of AI where GPT, Agents, etc, have no role to play.

Those rejection calls actually became fuel. 

They led us to write what we now call internally "The Principles of Edith Article"; our internal manifesto about what Edith (our finance employee) must stand for: precision, transparency, and constraint-based intelligence. 

Why am I telling you this? Because we want to bridge that gap.

In the coming weeks, we'll share some of the most common questions we've received from VCs that helped shape those principles.
