Australia 🇦🇺 is a hidden gem for remote work, if you love comfort, good coffee and wake up late.

After 5 months here is my recap and checklist:

3 months - Melbourne
1 month - Sydney
1 month - Gold Coast + Brisbane

I felt super productive and happy there, like nowhere else. 

My checklist: 
✔️ Work while others sleep
✔️ Coworking
✔️ Coffee
✔️ Food
✔️ Nature 
✔️ Modern serviced apartments
✔️ Nice architecture 
✔️ Ocean and sunny days 
✔️ Events

😴 Work while the rest of the world sleep. This was the most fun and productive part for me. I could do a lot of things because in general in Europe I tend to wake up late and it feels like everything already happened. So boosted mz productivity. 

🏢 Coworking. We found amazing coworking spot, with many locations in Melbourne, which has the best set up I saw. I never worked into coworking before and mostly from home. So now I don’t want to get to 100% home office again.

☕️ Coffee. For my coffee lovers friends this was a shock. I got into speciality coffee and my life will never be the same.

🏡 Apartments in Melbourne were a hidden gem for me. Nowhere in dev counties you can find smth like that, which is rentable for a year 1700 euro full services with pool , spa, in the center, 20 min from ocean. 

🍕Food
One more thing, I was amazed by is food. So how come the quality is so good, after I come from Munich having 2 options of chicken no fresh fish or anything like that. I know that Australia has closed market so most of food is local, so maybe because of that’s 

🌊 My personal dream was to live for some time and work near the ocean. Ocean in Australia you can not swim so much but it is still amazing, to be near and walk near. Also ocean is always windy somehow. 

I don’t mention such things as safety or smth but just because Australia and especially big cities are so developed that I suppose it is as a must

Downsides:
🫠 time zone 
🫠 far away from Europe


🌆 Melbourne 
From cities, I love Melbourne the best, despite I think it has much more uncomfortable climate than Sydney, or anywhere north from there.
Yes, north as it is all turned upside down 

Why I probably can be biased?
I did not spend winter there, so that could change. But planning to come back 😊

4.5 years ago I transitioned from academia to startup world

Since than it was a constant "breaking the walls" time 

Stage1: First MVP
I was working part time, while finishing my PhD and hired developer to build my first MVP. As you can guess this one was completely out of touch with the world. It was super inspiring period though, until it was not and I shut down first MVP.

Stage 2: Finding customers and build a business 
Now I started focusing small, build 2nd MVP, and get first customer for it. It was not easy but definitely worth it. 

Stage 3: Met co-founder 
This was a breaking moment, as I was not sure, should I continue or not , felt really alone, with only couple of customers and than met Alexey Sytnikov and it kind of started working 

Stage 4: Covid hit
We were shocked and did not know what to do. I am a big hypochondriac, so for me it was a hard time, but as everything all passes and now we dont even remember that it happened. 

Stage 5: EdTech became a thing
I was doing research and practise on creating digital education for long time, but only when covid hit everyone got interested in it really seriously. And we continue building platforms Marble. 

Stage 6: Fundraising & Growing team
I got into fundraising mode as that what at the time I thought is the most important to raise the capital. I could not imagine to grow business and team without it. So we raise some money, got grants and grow the team.

Stage 7: Run out of money
Apparently money fly much faster than you think. So, this is why people say you need to have a long runaway, longer than you think, like 1-1.5. It was 2022 and all market were down, our product and positioning were more vitamin so people start cutting costs and unsubscribe.

Stage 8: Goodbye team
Saying goodbye to amazing team I had was a huge challenge for me. So, it took a while to recover and start doing smth as I felt super lost.

Stage 9: Start writing on Linkedin
As I had no idea what I wanna do next, I was thinking ok, I need some commitment or discipline to keep me going. So from begging of 2023 I started writing on LinkedIn every day and that is what happened, I did not stop ever since.

Stage 10: Learn how to code and going solo
This is kind of where I hope you follow my journey as since than I posted everything in public.

What will it mean?

1. Bring more templates from founders 
Despite I did not focus on it in the beginning but selected the posts.

2. Hooks and structurs 
The one which focus more on founders.

Thinking maybe to adapt this one.

4. Linkedin influencer as founders
Adding more linkedin influencers who are founders and entrepreneurs

5. Branding on website and everywhere

Which version your fav?

Highest conversion day for Papermark 

Our 7 experiments how to increae conversion 👇

So excited to see more active customers on board and that work on growth pays off 😊

1. Reverse trial 
It was our first experiment on conversion, and it did not work so well. 🤷‍♀️
Reverse trial means users use pro features for limited time and after continue on the free plan or upgrade 

Learning: did it too early, should test it again.

2. Experiments with entry price 
$15
$29 
$39 

We figure out that last 2 perform the best, but still there opportunity to improve and provide specific features which fit plan better.

3. Limited time coupons

We tested limited time discount to influence conversion, which works well.

What I find very important is not just do it all the time as you risk to decrease perceived value of your product.

And attach it to specific feature or user group, for whom it would be valuable.

4. User groups 

By grouping users we identified how and for what users exactly use Papermark for. 

So, having this profiles we set group reach. This help with not notified everyone at same time.

5. Built in automatic notifications 

Notifications if your document was viewed, which increase activity. It gets on email. 

Also notifications on user limits, but for specific users

6. Newsletter and product update

This one is kind of basic, but I noticed that some companies either not doing it at all or opposite doing it too often.

We do it once per month and it shows significant engagement. And many users return to product

7. UTM link tracking 

We track with @PlausibleHQ  buttons which lead to conversion.

As there are number of features which users upgrade for but primarily:
- team invites
- custom domain
- link view history

Based on that you can focus attention on specific features and improve pricing structure.

Any good conversion hacks you did ?

Did not fill your YC application? 

I got rejected by Y Combinator 3 times, but applying again.

As a founder, I kind of get used to rejections, see it as a part of the process. 

By amount of rejections I can even measure the amount of work I ve done 😂

I heard this both from Tamara Kramer and Teemu Raitaluoto and doing it myself all the time.

My step by step:
1. Analyse my own performing posts
2. Select which posts I want to reuse
3. Use "Create from template" generate function in Postli
4. After I tag them with tag "reuse"
5. Or schedule for the future date directly
