A few facts from my experience:
 
1. Set up the first personal website on WordPress in 2015.

Today I was permanently blocked in /SEO -> the biggest subreddit about SEO. 

The reason? 

I mentioned Sitechecker under the post about the best Semrush alternative. 

However:

- I mentioned many brands there I really know / tested.
- I'm just answered the question, the person asked. 
- There are 6 other accounts who also mentioned other brands.

So, it feels strange for me. Sometimes looking an alternative for something is a reall challenge for people and if they ask about they, what you should answer?

Yes, I have to be transparent. I made a couple posts before in a news format in /SEO which aren't allowed. 

However, I still don't understand how the biggest portal about SEO can live without allowing news, how-to guides, and beginner questions. What people should talk about there?

Consider, that I was also top 1% poster, top 1% commenter, repeat contributor and so on in this subreddit. 

I published a lot of interesting stuff in both posts and comments.  From now I won't be able to do it. 

This is a huge lesson for me and everybody:

1/ Nobody safe on Reddit. You can spend years investing into your real account, being transparent about who you are, and it can dissappear in 1 day.

2/ Different subreddits are like different states. Experiment with them and choose which worth your attention and which are too restrictive or instead too spammy, with no deep conversations.

3/ The biggest power you can have is running your own popular subreddit. It's not fast and easy, but the outcome is worth it.

Overall I already blocked in 2 important for me subreddits:

/SEO
/agency

I don't plan to create duplicate or fake accounts to take part on them. I'll grow my own niche subreddit instead.

10 things you wish Search Console had… now it does (inside Sitechecker).

1. View a top-ranking page for each keyword and a top-ranking keyword for each page. This helps to catch the context of the query or page much faster.

2. View absolute and relative changes immediately on the chart. I assume you've also tired of using a calculator each time to tell customers they grow X%.

3. Exclude data by all branded search queries in 1 click. Your clients usually want to see your progress by non-branded bottom and middle of funnel keywords.
 
4. Create page segments by URL rules (contains / not-contains) or a custom list of URLs. Top use case: create a segment of the most valuable pages and send a separate performance report by them.

5. Apply multi-condition filters by pages and keywords. For example, the page contains X and doesn't contain Y.

6. Filter keywords and pages by metrics ranges. For example, show keywords or pages with an average position of < 20 or Impressions > 100.

7. Filter data by multiple countries. For example, you can choose all English-speaking countries, or countries from some regions (Europe, APAC, MENA, etc.).

8. Save any combination of dimensions and metrics as a quick filter for later. For example, all pages where Impressions > 100 and keywords don't contain "free" and in European countries.

9. No 1,000 row limit on keywords and pages available for export and work in the table. You don't need to export data to Google Sheets to see all the data anymore.
 
10. Check the search performance of any page in 1 click without reloading the page. Switch between page audits in the table quickly and keep all your filters set up live.

"We're looking for a Semrush alternative" 

That’s how ~40% of our demos start. Here’s what agencies usually tell me next:

- $1K–$1.5K/month is too much, we need something more affordable.
- We want stronger site health monitoring.

Amplitude announced a FREE AI visibility tracking tool. I've tested it, and I'm shocked by how good it is. Jokes on X about the lack of skills are irrelevant.

I expected some basic report, but it has almost everything I need:

1/ Add domain name and choose/edit suggested topics.
2/ Prompts generated based on topics are relevant enough.
3/ You can edit prompts if you need. 
4/ You have both visibility and rank tracking inside the responses.
5/ You can check the AI chat response and citations.
6/ You can check the list of all URLs for all the mentioned sites (I need Reddit threads, first of all)
7/ You can get the recommendations on how to improve the specific page.

This is so good that I have doubts it will be free for a long time. However, it's clear that this Amplitude feature will change the entire landscape of competition on this market. 

What are your thoughts? Have you tried it?

Respect to Semrush for not hiding criticism, but their subreddit has turned into a wall of frustration. 60% of the posts there are about:

- terrible cancellation experience
- huge prices
- lack of support
- problems with data accuracy

It looks like their team doesn't see them as problems. It's a plan. Here is a quote from their CFO, Q3 2025 - Earnings Call Script, published 4 days ago.

"As of September 30, 2025, we reported approximately 114,000 paying customers, down from the prior quarter, primarily reflecting our strategic focus on engaging more sophisticated and higher-value customers".

Pay attention to the trend (based on public documents):

- Q1 2025 -> 118k paying customers
- Q2 2025 -> 116k paying customers
- Q3 2025 -> 114k paying customers

Maybe it's not about Semrush, but about the global recession in general, or the SEO industry, where Google is taking more and more organic traffic?

These factors may affect partially. But my puzzle fits together too well:

- Users complain about Semrush on social media more and more
- 40% of our demos start with "we are looking for Semrush alternative"
- C-levels openly say that they have shifted their focus to enterprise clients

Here is why I did it, why you should join, and how it will work:

WHY I DID IT

Self-promotion is restricted or limited in almost all popular SEO subreddits. 

However, such self-promotion remains, but appears to be honest recommendations from anonymous accounts. 

It looks weird to me. It created wrong incentives. I want to do the opposite. 

RULES

1/Self-promotion isn't restricted, if it's done right. Discussing tools, methods, industry leaders, etc, is part of the industry. 

2/ Users aren't equal in their rights: 

- If you have a real profile and it clearly says who you are, you have more rights
- If you have a track record of valuable comments and posts, you have more rights

3/ If you've created a new tool, you can do a post about it, but you have to explain why it's better than existing solutions. 

4/ I want to see marketers and product managers from all SEO / AI tools there. People often have questions about brands, and it's great when they can be answered with details by official representatives. 

5/ If you have published a great post on LinkedIn / X, I want to see your post in my subreddit too.

5/ No AI-generated content.

For now, I publish just my own posts there, but after reaching the first 200 members, I want to start the AMA section with the best SEO / marketers in our industry.

I won 2nd place in organic SERP by a high-intent keyword, with a post on the branded Sitechecker subreddit that has only 25 members.

It should remove your doubts about whether you need to create a branded subreddit.

I've published the same post on LinkedIn, Twitter and a branded subreddit. So, it's not unique content, but Reddit has a special place in Google's heart.

Yes, Google prefers content from popular subreddits at first, but this is an example that you can get value even from a small branded subreddit. 

Start with long-tail and low competition keywords and create detailed, real content. I created this post based on the demo call with one of the prospects. 

You don't have to spend a lot of time; just transcribe the discussions you have.

Google announced automatic keyword clustering in Search Console Insights. Sounds great, but this is a joke. Here is why:

1. Search Console Insights doesn't have an API.
2. Search Console Insights doesn't have an export feature.

So, it's almost impossible to work with this data. This is the right move from Google Search Console team, but it's just not enough.

Keyword clustering is still not a simple task, because of the approach used to do the right keyword grouping:

- you can't use words in keywords as a signal of grouping
- AI chats still make too many mistakes when trying to group keywords

The only reliable method is using Google SERP checking for each keyword and looking for overlaps. If SERPs are similar, than keyword should be in one group.

I see it as a huge opportunity for Sitechecker. It's clear, SEOs need this feature. 

How do you do keyword clustering now (for a new website and the old ones)?

~ 80% of SEOs hate GA4 native interface, but most of them continue using it.

We've just made one step closer to fixing all this pain completely.

Sitechecker on-page SEO extension has reached 200k+ installs. It was hard.

In Nov 2024, we had 178k installs, and for 9 months, we were on a plateau. 

I wanted to achieve 200k as soon as possible, because I feel it impacts the conversion rate from plugin page views to installs. Let's see whether I am right.

Our biggest competitors are:

- SEOquake (1mln+)
- SEO Meta in 1 Click (900k+)
- Detailed (500k+)

Can we hit 1mln and how much will it cost? Yes. 

We already have unique features: GSC metrics, keywords, URL inspection API, and page content changes. However, this is available only for paid users. 

I assume that we can hit 1mln installs only if we do 3 things:

1/ Add GA4 metrics too as a feature.
2/ Make the entire Sitechecker app and extension free for 1 website forever.
3/ Start running paid ads for this extension.

This is just a hypothesis. Do you want a 100% free extension that allows you to check GSC and GA4 metrics for any page in 1 click? How often will you use it?

How often do big brands block the use of their brand keywords in search campaigns for competitors in Google Ads? 

I've launched search campaigns in Google Ads for Sitechecker when people look for "[specific seo tool] alternative" this month as a test.

We already created good landing pages for such keywords, they already get traffic from organic search, but considering high intent of these queries, it's worth to run Google Ads too.

Interesting that Semrush is the only one that blocked the usage of their brand search queries in the ad. 

If you see the SERP by "semrush alternative", it's clear that brands don't use Semrush in their copy (except Diib, but I guess it's temporary). 

This is an effective move from Semrush because it does 3 things:

- increase CPC for each click because there is not exact mch keyword in ad
- decrease the CTR of the ad
- decrease the probability of a bad reputational impact

I'm curious, how often do you see that big brands do that?

Should you build a backlink from a listicle that ranks in the top 10, but the entire website is AI-generated? It's a controversial topic. 

From one side, it gives citations in AI chats. On the other side, the question is how long it will last.

This question came to me when I checked visibility in AI chats by the keyword "white label SEO software". 

Sitechecker was cited in Google AI overview only because of the listicle, where it was mentioned organically, but it's clear that this is 100% AI-generated content. 

When you check this website at Ahrefs, it grows well, but most of the pages are AI-generated without any human involvement.
You probably already saw a lot of posts about how usually end up such sites. 

However, somebody also can say that no listicle is safe in Google. Even well-polished listicles on trusted sites may disappear from top 10 any day.

What do you think: 

- is it worth paying to be included in a listicle on such a website?

- should link building agencies add a new variable to link cost estimation based on share of AI generated content on the website?

What's wrong with a new Google Ads layout in SERP? 

I'm calling product designers.

My take. There is nothing wrong with a new layout if you want to hide that these results are ads as much as possible. 

In this case, the heading Sponsoring results is perceived as an organic H1 for the entire SERP. 

The button Hide sponsored results is built to be invisible.

From what we know about how people scan the content, the old way is much more transparent about what is an ad and what isn't an ad.

Google designers know about this pattern of content scanning and act according to this knowledge. 

Thoughts?

P.S. I noticed this new layout 3 days ago, but now I see it's rolled out to more people.

Have you ever seen such a brand/non-brand report based on GSC data?

I've not seen and I'm happy we built it. You see everything on one screen: 

1/ Overall comparison of performance by brand/non-brand keywords across all metrics (clicks, impressions, CTR, position, query count, page count) for any chosen period

2/ Dynamics of these metrics by date, week, and month.

3/ Possible impact of changes you logged on your branded traffic (influencer marketing campaigns, paid ads, new wins in AI search, offline ads, etc).

4/ Overall share of branded/non-branded clicks.

5/ The list of all branded keywords with the ability to sort them by percentage of growth (check the 1st comment).

In the world of zero-click searches and broken marketing attribution, this report is a must for any agency. 

Your customers constantly ask you how well they perform in AI chats. Now you have to show them both:

- how many non-branded clicks you've generated for them from Google
- how many branded clicks you've generated for them via AI chats

It's interesting to consider the root of this incorrect information. 

I use GetLatka every time I conduct research in the SaaS space. 

The biggest value of this website is unique interviews of Nathan Latka with founders and CEOs, where they often share unique info on revenue and employees that they didn't share before.

However, for Favikon, it looks like wrong information. I assume the use of AI chats for collecting and enriching data may be one of the reasons for it.

The Search Console team released annotations on search performance charts!

There is good news and bad news:

Good news: they did it!

Bad news: considering the speed of adding new features, they will be able to fix all the limitations they have and create a great tool in 5 years.

2 good features per year and 10 features to add = 5 years. 

What are these 10 features I talk about? Here are all of them:

1. Show the top-ranking page for each keyword and the top-ranking keyword for each page to catch the context of the query or page much faster.

2. Show absolute and relative changes immediately on the chart so we don't need a calculator each time we do a comparison.

3. Exclude data by all branded search queries in 1 click and compare branded vs non-branded clicks and impressions. 
 
4. Create page segments by URL rules (contains / not-contains) or a custom list of URLs and compare segments in one report.
