Journalists for Human Rights

-Led workshops for reporters at Citi FM — Ghana’s top radio station — guiding journalists through a framework to effectively report on human rights issues and good governance
-Co-produced stories by supporting journalists with reporting, scriptwriting and production
-Tracked the impact of trainings, recording an increased number of human rights stories and greater gender diversity amongst sources in journalists’ stories
Built strong relationships with journalists and management, leading to being the only foreign media trainer offered a subsequent contract extension by the radio station

Media Trainer

I'm a freelance journalist and communications consultant based between Toronto and Nairobi. My work focuses on humanitarian issues, social justice, and women’s rights. 

As a freelancer, I've reported from a dozen African countries on issues including the famine in Ethiopia, refugee policy in Uganda, and the state of emergency with regard to sexual violence in Sierra Leone. Previously, I worked as a TV reporter in Kenya and a human rights media trainer in Ghana. 

My work has been published by NPR, CBC, Toronto Star, The National Post, Global Citizen, and The CS Monitor, among others. As a communications consultant, I've supported organizations such as CARE USA, ActionAid UK, and several UN agencies with multimedia storytelling and advocacy campaigns.

I'm a member of the: International Press Association of East Africa, American Society of Journalists and Authors, Canadian Journalists of Color, and the Media Council of Kenya.
