💡 What Actually Gets you Hired in Data Science

This person runs hiring at their company, and they wrote a thread breaking down what's important. I don't agree with everything, but here is my experience:

While strong fundamentals are key, you need to be able to impact the business beyond your model's performance. 

✴️ Can you help people outside the data team put your team's work into action?

✴️ Are you just as thoughtful about data cleaning as you are model development?

To be clear, if you are 10x AI researcher and not as good at some of the soft skills, you are still going to do great on the job market. 

But if you're not the next Yann LeCun (l'm in this boat), this threads has some good advice.

🚨 Mito > Claude > ChatGPT 

I had some fun mapping the weighted center location of everyone in my fantasy football group chat. Each visual was generated with the same, single prompt. 

1️⃣ Mito AI: Satellite image of the US and location labels letting me know the name of the actual weighted center location. The labels overlap a bit too much. 

2️⃣ Claude: An outline of the US (minus half of New England being cut off). I can see the location, but am not provided any information about it. 

3️⃣  ChatGPT: While providing technically accurate information, no one would decide to present the information like this.

Mito wasn't perfect -- I would use a second prompt to stop the labels from overlapping. 

Still you can see how we're building AI that creates usable visualizations and dashboards a step ahead of the big model providers, when used out of the box.
