I used to be a DECENT programmer. I was self-taught, I'd never worked at a big company like Google, and had never even studied computer science in university... Naturally, I felt there was something missing... I didn't want to be a GOOD developer, I wanted to be GREAT. So I read every software book I could find that I thought was "above" my pay grade. And after countless hours of soaking up technical details, I learned something extremely important: Most programming books don't teach the big stuff. Instead, they teach specific skills will be irrelevant in the next 2 years. Great for beginners, yes... But where did the experts get their knowledge?
