Sierra Club

The Sierra Club is one of the oldest and largest grassroots environmental organizations in the United States. It was founded in 1892 by the conservationist John Muir and a group of like-minded individuals who were concerned about the preservation of natural landscapes, particularly in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The Sierra Club advocates for the protection of wilderness areas, promotes environmental conservation and sustainability, and works to combat climate change through various initiatives such as lobbying for environmental policies, supporting renewable energy, and engaging in public education and outreach.

My responsibilities:

- Identified eligibility limitations for states and cities in Section 50131 of the IRA, prompting the facilitation of a workgroup to rectify and ensure equitable access to $1 billion for conservation and zero building energy code adoption.

- Served as Co-Lead of ‘EE Advocates’ Federal Implementation: BIL + IRA Workgroup where I was tasked with organizing and leading discussions on energy efficiency initiatives in Virginia.  The 'EE Advocates' workgroup is made up of various organizations including Virdiant, the Southern Environmental Law Center, Virginia Interfaith Power & Light, and others.

- Project managed student capstone project at Indiana University Bloomington's H4I Energy Justice Lab focused on equitable implementation and dissemination of energy efficiency funding provided by the IRA in Virginia.

- Authored multiple Op-Eds, published in the Virginia Sierran, focused on energy policy in the Commonwealth.

- Lobbied the Richmond City Council for the creation of a Public Utility Commission to oversee the operations of Richmond Gas Works.

- Held meetings with various stakeholders and Sierra Club partners to further the organization's initiatives in clean energy and energy efficiency.

- Assisted in tracking for tracking and accounting the University of Richmond's Scope 1,2,&3 Green House Gas Emissions.
        - Contacted necessary members of staff and administration to identify necessary consumption 
          figures.
        - Utilized "SIMAP" GHG accounting software to determine the University of Richmond's carbon 
          footprint

FLIPP Inc is a non-profit organization committed to breaking down employment barriers for formerly incarcerated individuals and fostering inclusive workforce environments.

My responsibilities:

- Researched Virginia community demographics for a Department of LaborGrant focused on enabling workforce reentry through solar training forformerly incarcerated individuals.

- Created "Electrivive" resource tool, an educational resource designed to educate incarcerated on 5 pillars of Building Electrification (Equitable, Electric, Efficient, Grid-Interactive, and Intelligent Control Systems).

- Educated incarcerated individuals at Piedmont Regional Jail in Virginia about building electrification in November of 2023 utilizing "Electrivive", the first program of its kind.
