Began operational career in 40th Regiment RA, leading and managing teams of from 30 to 120 people. Selected and passed the arduous All Arms Commando Course serving with 29 Commando Regiment. Following a senior role in the Ministry of Defence, became a Battery Commander (Department Head) in 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery (7 Para RHA). Always promoted at the earliest opportunity, and at the head of peer group.

Also accountable for Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and equipment readiness of multiple vehicle fleet of up to 25 complex Armored tracked and wheeled vehicles.
