✨As I mentioned in my video celebrating 1000 days of MyDay App last week, remarkable organisations are created through remarkable people. 💗🤝

That is why, making sure that the people within your organisation are happy and looked after takes precedence over anything else. 

But how can this be achieved in practice, and what are the common pitfalls organisations encounter in fostering a culture of wellness? 🧘🌿

Drawing insights from Deloitte's latest employee survey on well-being, I've written a quick blog sharing three simple yet impactful changes that any business can implement to enhance the lives of their employees.

📉I firmly believe that businesses neglecting the mental and physical health of their teams will inevitably face consequences such as heightened employee turnover, challenges in recruitment, and decreased motivation among their workforce.

How Businesses Can Do More to Put Their Team First!

What if I told you that life could be everything you wanted it to be?

Some say that’s possible, and some say it’s not… but whatever your beliefs, there’s something to be said for knowing where we’re going, and steering our actions and habits towards it as far as you can. ➤➤➤ 🏁

A life by design, without doubt, is something I advocate for. 

Which is why our desire to constantly escape reality through the looking glass that is mobile phones, tablets and screens is a fight worth fighting! 📵

Even scarier is the appetite that our younger generations have to consume unscripted content directly at source via social media. 

Live streamed sports, for example, are more popular than ever, with 94 of the top 100 telecasts in 2022 being sports events. It’s not television shows or movies, but the constant live access to people, events and activities on social media that’s stealing our attention. 

What is it that we are ACTUALLY trying to find down this rabbit hole of attention-grabbing content? ⁉️

The things that will make us successful, healthy and happy do NOT live on the inside of a smartphone or tech device. We know this, and yet we can’t help ourselves giving them our focus and hoping for a return of some kind. Why?

Connection & Community. ✨

It’s our need for connection, belonging and togetherness that drives us to keep picking up that phone or switching on that screen.

Even when we know better. 

Because in reality, the greatest bang for our buck when it comes to happiness, health, longevity and fulfilment is a sense of belonging amongst people we connect with. 🫂

Community has a greater positive impact on mind and body than stopping alcohol, eating a better diet, or getting enough exercise.

The elixir of life lies in togetherness and belonging. ☀️

A group of like-minded individuals who support and inspire us, who pick us up when we are down, who push us on to greatness, and who allow us to laugh and cry together.

This is one message I will never tire of telling: A life by design starts with being intentional about the communities you become a part of. 

Before we worry about anything in life, align yourself with the right people. 👤👤👤

Become a part of the kind of communities that will help you achieve your goals. Build your own community to surround and support each other. Help each other to build communities that will enable us to thrive for longer healthier lives.

This is the secret - build real communities, with people like you, and spend time interacting with real people. 🤝

That’s how you build a life by design.

Everybody wants black or white, this or that, yes or no. 👍👎

However, that is not the way that life wraps up in reality.

No matter what, there are a few certainties that we have to understand, account for and expect.

Because if we do, our expectations of life will be far more robust, our ability to bounce through will be much improved and our aptitude for resilience will reach new heights. 📈

The need for work, turning up and doing, is a part of being, so work hard to find something that gives you a fizz. ✨

Uncertainty, not knowing how things will turn out, what the markets will do, how your kids will react to something is going to turn up A LOT, so be kind to yourself. You figured it out before, and sure as eggs, you will figure it out this time. 

Don’t forget pain. Life’s companions, pets, family, relationships, illness, work and so much more will dish out pain, consistently. So be prepared by enjoying the now, being thankful when things are going great and LOVING this rollercoaster we are fortunate enough to call life.  🎢

It was not designed to be perfect and nor were you. So give yourself a break.  Know that light follows dark and you are super special in so many ways, stronger than you realise and super worthwhile.

The basics are basics for a reason. 

If you are feeling stuck, stagnant, underwhelmed, overwhelmed or just like you need a bit of direction? 🧭

It happens to all of us, you are not alone. 

The great news is, often, we can drive the change ourselves and create momentum with a little bit of focussed action. ➡️🏆

Here are a few things you can that will flip the switch and get you moving, feeling better and out of a rut.

1. Go for a walk outside, no phone, for just 15 minutes should do the trick 🚶‍♂️
2. Read something that’s interesting, inspiring or teaches you something. Weird but this could be my favourite 
3. Hug or talk to someone you care about, animals work too 🫂
4. Get sweaty, if you are that way inclined, some exercise works a treat
5. Do something for someone else!!! Making someone else feel amazing is a surefire way to win 🎁
6. Write down a few things that you are grateful for… weather, love, music, health, experiences, you name it, its your game 

These are just a few thoughts, make sure you don’t take life on by yourself. 👥

People are meant to tackle life’ing together, so try some of the above, get your tribe close, let people help, you never know. You might be helping them more than they are actually helping you.

Life is full of richness when you know where to look. ✨

But what does this mean exactly?

It encompasses all methods, expectations, and behaviours that shape our workplace dynamics. 🎯 

This includes: how frequently we switch tasks, the level of autonomy we have over our work, and even the culture dictating the speed of response to Slack messages. 

Personally, I've found that fostering flexibility breeds effectiveness. Building a team culture rooted in trust has been crucial in driving accountability within my team. 🤝 🚀

Beyond just ways of working, leadership behaviour and workplace design also have a considerable influence over the happiness, motivation, and overall well-being of your team.
