In 2010, I took my first tentative steps in copywriting. I wasn't trained as a writer. I'd never heard of most marketing terms. And I certainly didn't have any connections to fast-track me to the top. What I had was a desperate need to earn money and an old laptop that just about met my needs. My first jobs? They came from Elance - now today's Upwork. A platform much derided by many, it kept my bank account ticking over as I learned about copywriting best practice, basic SEO techniques, and client management. But I couldn't stay on the platform forever. I wanted more - and to not have to pay 20% of every job to a faceless company I had come to rely on. That's when I started Lime Copywriting. Things were slow at first, and there were days I thought about throwing in the towel and getting a "proper job." But I didn't. I persevered, and month by month, managed to grow a client base. That initial website - a one-man band wearing many hats - has now grown into something bigger. It's a byword for fantastic copy and top service, helping clients around the world meet their content needs. When I look back at what I've achieved, I'm pretty darn happy, but also mindful that there's more to do if I want Lime Copywriting to take its place at the top of the copywriting tree.
