Despite his training as an IT professional, James spent his college years as a radio production engineer where he learned the basics radio transmission and gathered some marketing and communications skills preparing LPMs as an executive producer for a few radio shows. He spent a year in local government providing IT Support to the Municipal Chief Engineer before joining AirtelTigo Ghana, a leading telecommunications company providing support for voice, data and mobile money services. 13 months after starting an event company without success, James returned to the corporate workforce providing marketing and communications consultancy for a UK Based Financial Advisory, working with clients such as the Government of Ghana, Zenith Bank and Société General. He later joined a Nigerian startup to lead product and market development and consulted for a Croatian software company providing similar services to a different software product line. Currently, James is a product manager working to launch new products. James participates as an digital rights and policy advocate in the area of Internet Governance, ensuring that the internet is free and safe for everyone. He also leads a GIS community of volunteers and is helping members (mostly students) gain skills relevant to the Geospatial industry. He is also learning to become a railway engineer, a passion born in 2016 focusing on asset performance to enable operators maximise their assets for profitability.
