By far the one and only Penang-born Malaysian experienced sailing as "ice class Navigator" onboard 1C type cargo ship in subzero -32 deg C working temperature deployed in the St. Lawrence River, Montreal Canada 🚢 My dad always said to me "do not compare with others, always believe among all the oranges in the basket, you are the most beautiful apple" 🍎 18 years of working experience in the maritime industry since 18 years old. Today, I lead a group of amazing people from different nationalities striving to make an honest living at sea. [Education] ● trained in Malaysia - Diploma Nautical Studies ● qualified in New Zealand - Master COC class 1 ● graduated from the UK - MBA Shipping & Logistics ● Fellow, The Nautical Institute ● Fellow, Center for Ocean Policy and Economics ● Associate Fellow, Royal Institute of Navigation Previously served in the corporate, MISC Group, Malaysia's largest shipping arm, as the Group HSE Lead Auditor at the tender young age of 32, where my line colleagues were 20 years older than me. My main responsibility at that time was to report to the top management of their floating assets were managed effectively through my safety audits to identify, develop, and recommend specific procedures that would improve the aspects to meet the operational and business requirements. 🔥I tendered my resignation within a year of staying in a corporate and returned to sea to resume command was the best decision I made in my career path; because I find sailing is more rewarding in terms of job fulfillment, and the great teamwork spirit I had while navigating the high seas; something I could not have experienced if I would have stay in the cubicle life. Proactive roles I undertake include being a Guest Speaker in podcasts and live TV; social media engagement to share my passion for increasing well-being, resilience, and raising awareness of mental health struggles in the wider working community. In 2021, MarineTraffic included me in their list as one of the world’s "Top Maritime Influencers You Should Follow." Apart from work, I earned a first-degree black belt in karate at 18 years old from Soke Datuk Clement Soo, the founder of the Goshin-Ryu Karate Federation.
