My Story: • Grew up in an isolated small town of 5000 people. • Dreamed of adventure but most people I knew never left. No one in my family had gone past high school. • The first time I moved was to attend business school in a major city. My family drove me 15 hours to drop me off on the first day. I was OVERWHELMED to say the least. • Retreated into a shell and in hindsight I wish I had enjoyed the experience more. After graduation I couldn't find a job (never mind a career) I liked. Even with a good education I still didn’t have what it took to survive in a city. • Felt like I was not going to "make it" and maybe there was something wrong with me. Questioned why I didn't have what it took to stick it out through the hard times of any job. • Thought I was hitting a new low having to move back home and taking a job in a non-business sector. I thought the world had beaten me. • Found physician recruitment serendipitously. I only took the job because it involved travel out of my community and I knew zero about it. My first day I was handed a usb with one pdf and asked to recruit to my rural community. Oh by the way most of the current doctors had been there for 20+ years we rarely recruited anyone. • Little did I know that would change everything for me. Once I realized how important the work really was I fell in love with it. My "business" thinking became an asset as I was able to re-imagine how we recruited and what data was truly important. • 10 years later I still feel satisfied with my career. Winning multiple leadership awards, chairing a national organization, recruiting more doctors for communities than anyone thought possible. The confidence and mental perseverance I built up in those times spilled into the rest of my life and I am now a proud husband and father (things I never thought were possible 10+ years ago). • My aim is to give you the tools and insights I learned from 1000s of interactions.
