I walked away from a toxic workplace with no backup plan....just a few hundred dollars in savings and the hope that I would just figure it out...somehow. 

And I took that risk because it was a moment in my life when I was so burned out, so drained, that I couldn’t fake it anymore.

So I did the only thing at the time to stay afloat. I started driving Uber Eats, with my dog Cody in the passenger seat, delivering meals across the city while trying to figure out what was next.

That time in my life broke me open.

Because sitting in that car, between deliveries, I realized something powerful:
The version of me I had built for everyone else...the good employee, the high achiever, the one who kept pushing no matter how tired she was...wasn’t the real me.

Somewhere between the podcasts I listened to and the notes I scribbled between delivery stops, I started to dream again.

I started to rebuild — not just my career, but my identity.

That season taught me everything about resilience, reinvention, and what it means to start fresh on your own terms.

And I credit that time with being the foundation of the woman I became. 
It was the beginning of my business, my purpose, and the life I live today.

For years, I told myself that walking away from a toxic workplace would mean I failed.

That leaving the team I helped build or the company I gave everything to would make me look ungrateful.

That maybe if I worked harder, smiled more, or stayed longer things would finally change.

They didn’t.

And one day, it clicked.

In my 20s, I thought success meant checking all the boxes.
Get the degrees.
Land the high-paying job.
Get married.
Do all the things I was told would make me happy.

And I did.
I checked every box.
I built the life everyone told me I “should” want.

But when I hit my 30s, I looked around… and I was miserable.
The safe life I had built didn’t feel fulfilling…it felt empty.

That’s when everything shifted.
My 30s became about unchecking all those boxes.

I got divorced.
I walked away from the career I had spent over a decade building.
I let go of the version of me who lived for other people’s approval and started asking who I really wanted to be.

It wasn’t easy.
But that season taught me what reinvention truly is:
breaking free from the stories we were handed
and writing a new one…on our own terms.

Now, in my 40s, I know who I am.
I love who I am.
And I am unapologetically unstoppable.

Because success isn’t about checking boxes anymore.
It’s about building a life that feels like mine.

Sixteen years ago today,
I walked down the aisle toward the man I thought I’d spend forever with.
I loved him deeply...
but I loved him as the version of me that felt acceptable to him.
The version who put his desires before her own.
The version who had no idea what it truly meant to love herself.

You can probably guess how that story ended.

Less than six years later, despite trying our best, the marriage ended in divorce and I was shattered.

Until the next relationship…where I repeated the exact same patterns.

And yes...you can guess how that one ended too.

Eventually, I had to ask myself: What’s the common denominator here?

Guess what...It was me.

The unhealed me.
The me who kept conforming to earn love she never received as a child.
The me who kept abandoning herself because she didn’t yet know who she was.
The me who kept chasing love when what she really needed was self-love.

After years of healing, I now understand: True love begins with self-love.
Because when you finally choose yourself, you stop settling for versions of love that require you to shrink.

The moment I realized my hustle was a trauma response, everything changed.
For years, I thought the grind was proof of my strength.
That overworking meant I was committed.
That burnout was the price of success.

But what I was really chasing wasn’t achievement...it was safety.

Growing up, I saw what it meant to survive. How hard my parents worked to create stability, how fear of "not being able to make ends meet" shaped every choice.

So I learned early:
If you stop, you fall behind.
If you rest, you lose momentum.
If you slow down, everything you built might disappear.

That mindset got me far...but it also left me empty.

Because hustle might build careers, but it destroys connection, peace, and joy when left unchecked.

My reinvention began when I started asking better questions:
✨ Where am I hustling from trauma, not truth?
✨ What would peace look like instead of performance?
✨ What would success mean if it was defined on my terms?

The answers changed everything.

Now, success looks like waking up rested. 
Taking time to walk my dog. 
Laughing more.
Working from joy — not fear.

Because hustle isn’t strength.
Alignment is.

I used to spend so much time looking back.
At the years I lived for everyone else.
At the choices I made out of fear instead of freedom.

At the boxes I checked…marriage, career, stability…while abandoning myself in the process.

Here’s what I know now:
You can’t rewrite your past. But you can learn from it and…rewrite your future.

The woman I am at 43 isn’t focused on regret. She’s focused on choice. On reclaiming the decades I still have ahead of me. On creating a story that puts me…my joy, my peace, my desires…at the center.

Reinvention requires healing the past, yes. But not to stay stuck in it. To unlock the future.

And the most radical thing a woman can do is to stop asking, what if I had… and start asking, what if I still can?

Because you can.
You can choose joy.
You can choose peace.
You can choose freedom.
Most of all, you can choose you.

I’ve reinvented my life more times than I can count.
And every single time, it began with something that felt like a breakdown. Here is the real story 👇🏾
 
At 28, I got married.
By 33, I was divorced. Broken and considering how the life I was “supposed” to have came crumbling down.
➡️ That season taught me that the most important love story you’ll ever write starts with you.

At 29, I started my career and found myself in one toxic workplace after another.
Each one chipped away at my confidence until I barely recognized myself.
➡️ Being in that cycle, and finally breaking it, taught me that your environment matters. The people you surround yourself with and spaces you work and live in will either drain your power or help you rise.

At 38, I walked away from my corporate career to start my business.
Within months, my savings ran out. I was scared, questioning everything.
➡️ But I learned that when you’re called to something greater, struggle doesn’t mean stop. It means rise.

At 40, I sold or donated everything I owned.
Just me, my dog Cody, and a rental car headed for Miami. No plan, no safety net, no guarantee.
➡️ That leap taught me that it’s never too late to start again. And that freedom lives on the other side of fear.

Now, at 43, I’m living a life that finally feels like mine.
Not perfect. Not without challenges.
But peaceful. Purposeful. Aligned.

And that’s what reinvention really is.
It’s not about becoming someone new…it’s about returning to yourself, over and over again, until the woman you are matches the truth you carry inside.

Creating Boundaries

We may not have grown up seeing self-love modeled for us.
We may not have had the healthiest examples of boundaries, joy, or rest.

But reinvention is this:
Healing the past through what you choose today.

Every time you feed your body with love,
you heal the girl who was taught to hustle at the expense of herself.

Every time you set a boundary,
you protect the woman who was told her “no” wasn’t enough.

Every time you choose peace,
you honor the version of you who only knew chaos.

That’s what reinvention really looks like.
It’s not about starting over…it’s about coming home to yourself…your version of love, peace, and happiness. 

Because when you choose yourself,
you heal every version of you that once couldn’t.
