Group Procurement Manager

Suncorp Group

Working within the property claims procurement team, the primary remit of my role is to build relationships with the Home and Commercial claims divisions of  Suncorp’s Insurance.   I worked on several strategic projects designed to address inflationary pressures across the building and insurance repair supply chain.

Key Initiatives and Outcomes
✔ 12 month tender process resulting in the onboarding of a full panel of home claims building 
       repairers across the country.
✔ Implement a Bulk Buy Strategy aimed to leverage spend and support the repair panel meet their 
      contractual commitments.
✔ Develop a category plan for home contents insurance which included the introduction of a digital 
      contents validation platform.
✔ Introduced a project management model aimed at increasing flexibility within the home claims 
      building repair panel.
✔ Business partner for windscreen replacement contract.

The above has been undertaken/delivered while supporting the business through the single biggest flooding event SE Queensland has seen, a pandemic and full time WFH.

As the procurement business partner for the supply chain function, my role was to support the team who distribute goods to 650+ stores across Australia and New Zealand, utilising 6 distribution centers

Additionally,  given my experience across multiple categories I was involved in a number of other business projects.  The categories included:

Supply Chain Business Partner - Group Procurement

Rio Tinto

Following a successful secondment, I returned to the Travel and Expense Management role with the main priority being the change management for a new the global corporate credit card rollout of 15,000+ cards using Bank of America Merrill Lynch. 

My objective is to ensure the 30,000 travellers with an ‘active’ travel profile are able to continue to travel safely, and without issue.

I focus on process and system integration (Travel Tracker, data feeds, IT integration and reliability of data) so that the new system aligns with the current reconciliation processes across multiple business units.

I am also responsible for contract and contractor management of the various agreements for airlines, hotels, hire cars and the Rio Tinto Travel Management Company (TMC) for the east coast of Australia. This includes all change management aspects, key internal and external stakeholder engagement, supplier KPI analysis, quarterly supplier reviews and extensive problem solving.

This is a challenging role which requires exceptional leadership and communication skills to drive individual behaviours. The success I have had within this role has resulted in above KPI compliance to the relevant contracted companies, with no safety incidents on the east coast of Australia. This is a critical role in the delivery of cash saving to the business.

Category Specialist - Travel & Expense Management

I was seconded to a co-leadership role on a project specifically for my influencing and negotiating skills, to increase the spend Emerging Markets has within procurement.  The project related to Wear Liner Tender - Value Creation.

I played a pivotal role in convincing the Iron Ore Business (customer) that quality and reliability from China is equivalent to local manufacture.  I reinstated the rigour around the process for sourcing products from international markets.

Achievements: 
•	Achieved 27% saving across $8M spend
•	Leveraged existing procurement relationships in China that were developed on previous Explosives tender.
•	Identified improvements in packaging and order process, and consolidation of product lines.
•	Developed and drafted document templates for full strategic sourcing project for overseas suppliers including SOW, RFP, Evaluation Criteria, Contract, Stakeholder Engagement Matrix, Risk Analysis.
•	Consolidated 7 suppliers down to 1 primary and 2 secondary suppliers depending on type of liner.

Emerging Markets Opex Supply Chain - Secondment, Perth

I implemented Preferred Supplier contracts that were initially negotiated by Singapore Global Procurement team.  I also ensured the right quality level accommodation and WHS standards were in place to ensure employee safety when travelling.

Achievements:
•	Leveraged existing relationships to improve a quote by $100K on Brisbane project long-stay accommodation.
•	Achieved $85K saving on rates within Brisbane - 21% average reduction in rates after negotiation process.
•	Successful in increasing the preferred carrier market share from 30%-60% - an annualised saving of $300K.

Category Specialist - Travel & Expense Managment

This role was specific project that was created to prove to existing sole supplier that market barriers to entry could be overcome.  I was the International Logistics subject matter expert on a project team of 15 tasked with planning an end-to-end Ammonium Nitrate importation procedure from China.  
 
I developed and documented the full strategic sourcing process and travelled to China to evaluate suppliers, their supply chain, production facilities, packing, QA, QC, etc.  

Achievements:
•	Team delivered $multi-million saving as cheaper rate, and mitigated the risk of developing a ‘non-core’ business.
•	Conducted WHS Audit on Dangerous Goods Transportation organisation.  Process can easily be transferred.

Supply Chain Advisor - Explosives & Hydrocarbons - East

Based at the world’s biggest coal port, Newcastle, I was responsible for all Rio Tinto export documentation from the port, including preparation of Bills of Lading and demurrage calculations.
Audited port stockpile volumes with monthly financial reporting using SAP and coordinated coal sampling and analysis using a third-party laboratory.

Achievements:
•	Negotiated with customer to receive invoice as an email (rather than hard copy as was previous process) to get invoice generated on the same day and release payment 1 day earlier

Shipping Officer

"K"​ line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd)

Responsible for all K-Line Vessel Operations within the Port of Brisbane including containers, break-bulk, vehicles and bulk commodities.  This role was pure project management and expert multi-tasking with six to eight vessels ‘in work’ at any one time.

Achievements:
•	Built solid and positive relationships with Stevedore, Port Authority, Harbour Masters and Traffic Controllers, Australian Customs and Quarantine agencies.
•	Added value by offering freight-forwarding services to customers bringing in low container numbers.
