Figment

After having succeeded in enabling the dramatic scale-up of Figment's engineering org I moved over to the Product Management group to get a taste of being on the ground floor of innovation in the space. I consulted with product development personnel on product specifications, planning and strategy for Staking API. Additionally, I was active in recommending modifications to products, technologies, strategies and workflows in response to a dynamic (and at time chaotic) market landscape As part of my duties I also coordinated product development related activities related to high-value customer onboarding.

Senior Product Manager

Originally being recruited into the Product Management org by a co-founder I was quickly absorbed into the fast-growing engineering team as a director due to my experience in engineering leadership. This role required me to confer with management, engineering, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications & procedures in addition to direct recruitment, placement and evaluation of architecture & engineering staff. I was an active participant in the engineering leadership team that developed and implemented policies, standards and procedures for engineering and technical work. On top of those duties I was down in the trenches, directing the team working on The Graph decentralized network.

Having stepped up into the role of CTO I took on initiatives to refactor the product delivery workflow as the feature scope became more focused. Driven by an acute need I  drafted, managed and executed on hiring plan to facilitate both feature development and technical product onboarding. An aspect of these efforts involved establishing a functioning sprint cadence which could be executed across a team of domestic and off-shore engineering teams. Throughout this time I was still hands-on with mentoring, architecture, troubleshooting and delivering key system components using Node, React and Python on AWS.

My time at Remarkably began as a Principal Engineer, tasked with developing business / technical specifications, managing SLDCs to meet deadlines and direct code contributions. I built solutions on AWS using a blend of tech ranging from React on the frontend to Python on the backend. Part of my time was spent mentoring junior members of the team, developing strategy in partnership with Product Management and exploring new ideas to bring value to the platform.

One of my passions is enabling entrepreneurs whenever possible. Part of this has been advising pre-seed, often bootstrapped projects such as Unna. I've provided advice and guidance on fundraising, business strategy and tech implementation. Most startups fail to find product market fit within their narrow window of execution...however all of them fail without support.

StormX, Inc.

As StormX grew the mission of building systems and teams to revolutionize the way work is done across the globe amplified. Our goal was to harness the power of the blockchain to level the playing field and drive real change. To make this happen I took on the role of Director of Engineering, having a hands-on role in architecting the next generation of scalable backend and frontend systems to support a global workforce. This involved long hours of building an effective domestic and off-shore blended engineering team, leveling up peers via mentoring sessions and working hand-in-glove with Product Management to ensure we delivered what was need on-time. This era saw the complete rewrite of the original native Android application as a react-native solution deployed to the App Store and Play Store, a new web app experience, brand new micro service architecture and a data-driven view into product adoption.

When I joined StormX it was a very young company with mostly junior developers on staff. There were immediate contributions that needed to be made to enable them to changethe way a billion people around the world earn by matching them with tasks and letting them complete small gigs from any mobile device, anywhere in the world. A tall order, indeed. In addition to mentoring my peers and assisting the CTO with heavy-lifts I took charge of completely rebuilding the AWS environments, smashing bugs and guiding feature development.

Senior Software Development Engineer

Unearth Technologies, Inc.

I landed at Unearth during the early days, immediately developing and implemented real-time data gateway in JavaScript using Node.js with Express, websockets and AWS Elastic Beanstalk, to replace their alpha REST API. Continued iterations involved building out user authentication related features such as password recovery and management using Node.js and AWS Cognito, including full stack feature implementation using a custom frontend framework (this wasn't your run-of-the-mill MEAN stack, folks). At Unearth I was a truly full-stack developer, building micro services and cli tools for generating, manipulating and publishing raster image tiles for use in web-based mapping applications using Node.js with Express, GDAL, Imagemagick and Docker.

Thunder was my "let's try out ad-tech" phase. Want to deal with massive datasets? Ad-tech is for you! My primary role was to maintain and enhanced a static asset rendering pipeline in JavaScript using Node.js, Imagemagick and SQS on AWS Elastic Beanstalk.

Booster Fuels

Booster Fuels will always hold a special place in my heart. Coming on the heels of an intense co-founder experience in the industrial IoT space I was able to drive progress in the very-early-stage startup as one of the earliest engineering hires. Another full-stack experience, I built out the  GPS & map-heavy internal fuel-delivery driver app in JavaScript using ReactNative, lovingly names "Wilson". Rumor has it the app is still in use to this day. The meat of my contributions leveraged my background in telemetry and electronics to specify, design and prototyped the “Connected Fuel Truck’ IoT platform. This hardware/cloud/API-based control and monitoring system provided deep visibility and fleet management of the pump and vehicle systems. To top if off I met some amazing engineers, all with a passion for going from 0-1.
