Assisted with significant increases in market share during the 2 years plus at Reuters Canada including large gains in market share at CIBC, CIBC World Markets, Bank of Nova Scotia and Scotiacapital.  For example at CIBC, increased position count from 75 to over 225 in two years.

Bridgewater x Metaculus Forecasting Contest

Today's post from the real world of being a Market Data / Data Ranger / Data Strategist (blah blah blah....)

A) If we negotiate commercial terms (aka fees) on a renewal and then at the end of that $ negotiation, you then bring new terms and conditions or try to slip something new into the order form expect that to be a material problem in your engagement and negotiation process.  Terms and Conditions matter, there is no world in which bringing changes after commercial conversations are done is a good approach nor without substantive reputational and potentially deal risk.  I have had 4 of these in last 4 weeks - professionally poor form in my opinion.

B) If you are an existing provider or a potentially new provider and I am looking to trial and potentially expand/land a new relationship/contract, and you think giving a 2-7 day access period is sufficient, and you want to load up your process with pre-call, in game call and a post call (or anything more than one of those) it's not.  It's as if you expect the prospect to make your product the focus of their professional life during the arbitrary time frame of your access period.  Know that this substantively reduces the chances of you getting on the field at all with me and my firm and reduces the chances of expanding your business with us, especially if you are an existing provider.  You are increasing the transaction costs of engagement and squeezing duration, that certainly is net NPV negative for your business.

C) If we are going to do a paid trial access period, with no use in production, no "touch the money", and your firm thinks that trial period should be anywhere near full list price, with all due respect, that is simply "not on".  Why would I pay anywhere near 100 cents on the dollar for a restricted use trial license to sort out whether your service improves my investment process.  We can certainly argue whether it should be 10, 20, or 30 cents on the dollar, but 100 cents on the dollar is a non-starter.

D) If you are going to claim you are an agile provider and are committed to meeting our investment data and research requirements and then when asked to add something, you reply "sorry no capacity in 2024, we might consider as part of our 2025 planning process, I strongly suggest you look at your internal process.  This response and position puts you on the vendors I would short over time as an ongoing growth oriented concern.

As a reminder, if you wonder if this applies to your firm, I'm easy to get a hold of and will engage and will not name your firm specifically.

I was so excited to attend the 46th Annual Intercollegiate Mining Competition in beautiful Butte America this last weekend! 

It was such a pleasure to go back to my alma mater and cheer on the Montana Technological University teams, catch up with old classmates and teammates, and even assist a bit on the content and Livestream side through MineLife Media LLC! 

I was on the planning committee last time Tech hosted the competition (don't look up how long ago that was), and it's a ton of work to host an event like this. The students and department did an amazing job, and thanks to Epiroc the whole thing was Livestreamed for the first time ever! If you haven't seen it yet, it's available on the Tech YouTube, be sure to check it out. 

Tech also had a women's team of all freshmen competing, and they did a fantastic job! The men's team pulled out all the stops and brought home the overall win and coveted Sunshine Trophy. 

Huge thank you to Scott, Chris, and the rest of the Montana Tech - Mining Engineering department for having me out all weekend, and letting me borrow a vest that had enough pockets to hold my 2 cameras, drone and remote, cell phone, and microphones! Also a huge thank you to the students for putting up with my constant photo ops and video requests!

I have noticed a trend of vendors sending links versus actual materials, I am not a fan of that for a bunch of reasons

1) It comes across as mass produced to me w zero tailoring of message and context - do you really believe you can run higher end B2B this way?

2) I have seen a distrubing trend of links w deep trackers/click streams embeded - c'mon you send me a link with hundreds of characters and think I am going to click on that security and information wise - the link if you insist on sending one should be company.domain/marketingdeck or similar direct - no trackers or click streams etc.  I simply won't click and wll request you to send the materials versus links (of course not including dense media such as a video)

3) There are security risks associated with clicking on links (and of course I am not naive and know same exists with actual materials) - if I am doing business for the first time with you, try and be security minded.
