I focus on ensuring the quality of the business processes, infrastructure, investment processes, external services, and partner with the internal customers to deliver the right inputs and capabilities.  I own and manage a service platform that is continuously evolving to meet customer requirements and associated processes to enable understanding and interacting with the markets.  The service platform ensures that data, information and research is in place for all products in an excellent and compliant fashion, available in virtually all circumstances serving Research, Portfolio Construction, Portfolio Opeations, Signals Operations, Trading and Client Services.  

I partner with external service providers, content providers, venues, counterparties, brokers, and alternative data and design providers to help jointly improve the service experience, outcomes and reliability of the end to end value chains and system architecture.  Bridgewater highly values important and quality relationships and in my role, there are numerous external firms that we need to be excellent and we work with them to help achieve excellence.

Working the Market Risk Management area, I was responsible for fixed income, debt specific risk, credit indicies, selection of calibration securities, data management and researching the data requirements for new business intiatives within CIBC Wholesale Banking.  I completed a short contract with the team helping them to mature, refine and further develop their fixed income practice.  The contract term was of limited duration as I was waiting for the October 1st start date of my H1-B work visa for the United States.

As part of a need to increase focus on the business side of the fund and also to enable focus in IT on Time Series, I moved from running the EDM Group to running the Data Services Group.  I was accountable for content choices, contract negotiations, chair of the Data Governance Council, data quality, content and functional requirements and ensuring sound and strategic execution of the Data Management function.  Partnering with Information Services, I ensured that the business receives the data they need.  The data was required to be  Complete, Accurate, Reliable, Accessible, Timely, Transparent and Secure.  I was also the business owner for the Master Data Management (MDM), Enterprise Data Management (EDM), Time Series Solutions and kdb+ from Kx Systems.

Responsible for the Enterprise Data Management portfolio at CPPIB - the independent agency responsible for investing pension contributions from over 17 million Canadians.  Particular focus on Market Data, Reference Data, Credit Data, Entities, Issuers, Counter Party, Capital Markets and related data and processes.

Product Management and Marketing at TSX (Toronto Stock Exchange) - oversees 3rd party relationships, marketplaces and strategy. Head of Business Development for TSX Datalinx (Market Data division). Also a specialist in negotiations and agreements.  In addition, was chair of the Canadian Fixed Income Index Committee as part of the purchase of the Scotia Capital/PC Bond Fixed Income Index and Analytics business.  Manages relationships for the TSX with PC-Bond and  Fixed Income Index Founding and Contributing Dealers and Banks.  Product Director for TSX & The Canadian Press Equities News and CanDeal Canadian Dollar Fixed Income data.  TSX lead on Fixed Income Information Processor application and Fixed Income transparency with Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and CSA.  Lead product management and product marketing efforts with customers including dealers, banks, hedge funds, and asset managers.  Participate and contribute on strategic customer account audits.

Ensure CIBC  capital markets participants had the fastest data and lowest latency on the street possible.  SME for market data content, infrastructure and services at CIBC and the go to person on business and IT projects involving market data. Lobby with market data solutions and content providers to add additional data or speed up data flows to solve CIBC requirements. Led  Toronto market data experts committee - representation from several banks and brokerage house.

Responsible for product development and evolution, advocating for resources and priority for Canadian development, specialist sales assistance in treasury opportunities, and data management.  Added over 3,000 new fixed income instruments to product offering, worked directly with sales group to increase market share at Canadian financial institutions.  Responsible for data design, taxonomy and data management including display template selection and data security type selection process.

Responsible for three major Canadian banks - CIBC World Markets and CIBC (Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce), Bank of Nova Scotia, Scotia Capital (BNS), Toronto Dominion Bank, TD Securities.  Duties included fielding customer calls: technical support, data content and functionality support, product training and customer relations.  Trained over 800 individuals across areas as diverse as energy trading, treasury management, swaps trading, equity arbitrage and risk management.   Responsible for client account visitation program and being present at customer premises for live product assistance and products and solutions promotion.

Assisted with significant increases in market share during the 2 years plus at Reuters Canada including large gains in market share at CIBC, CIBC World Markets, Bank of Nova Scotia and Scotiacapital.  For example at CIBC, increased position count from 75 to over 225 in two years.

As a Research Data Ranger and Market Data Leader at Bridgewater Associates, I am responsible for global information, data and analytics discovery for the Front Office. With extensive experience in this role, I have developed and refined the business processes, infrastructure, and external services that enable our investment teams to understand and interact with the markets.  I never stand still though and always learning as my colleagues and vendor providers will attest to.

My core competencies include Enterprise Data Management, Market Data, Research, Analytics, Data Governance, Data Quality, Product Management, and Business Development. I own and manage a service platform that is continuously evolving to meet customer requirements and deliver the right inputs and capabilities. I also partner with the internal customers and external vendors to ensure that data, information, and research are in place for all. My mission is to provide data-driven insights and solutions that support Bridgewater's unique culture and approach to investing.

Taking a moment to honour and have empathy for Recruiters who are given absolutely impossible, not well focused and throw all onto the wall job descriptions in Market Data/Research Data.  

I had three hit my desk in terms of people looking for me to help them find people and all three failed the "What does the Client actually want/do they know what they need/do they even understand the business" tests.  Truly, and I know it does not work this way but in each of the three cases I would have been happy to speak with the HM and help them sort out what they truly need and eliminate at least 50% of the so-called requirements (which added up together into an impossible spec).  I don't expect many comments - just wanted you all to know that I see and acknowledge you and hope that sanity comes to your specs!
