Free Bird is looking…

I need someone who can coordinate/manage events in the southeast and who can also do other things…like helping with social content and other marketing related activities. 

Given that our company is still young, this position can evolve over time in a myriad of different ways. It’s a cool opportunity and a fun job…and while I’m certainly biased, I think it’s a great role with tremendous upside.

My preference is someone with an outgoing personality and who is comfortable meeting new people and is fine in front of the camera.

I would prefer this position to be based out of Atlanta.

Wait…

Actually, yes. Yes you do…..and I’m sorry.😎

My knee jerk reaction to this used to be “nope”…as if I was almost offended. Like “how would you know me?”

But then something changed. Me.

I just started showing up as all me on LinkedIn.

I just let it all hang out…and I’m so sorry 😂

So do you know me? Of course not.

However, you know a lot and that’s cool with me.

How many of you are unapologetically the same on LinkedIn as you are in real life?

All we have is hope…

I want a world of peace and love.

I want a world safe for my children.

I want a world free of divisiveness.

I want a world of respectful discourse.

I want a world where fulfillment is possible.

I want a world devoid of war.

I want a world that treats everyone equally.

I want a world of love and happiness.

Yet…

I live in a world of reality.

I live in a world that is often unsafe.

I live in a world of overreaction.

I live in a world where so many are unfulfilled.

I live in a world of wars.

I live in a world where people hate one another because of their opinions.

I live in a world of hate and despair.

So what do I do…

I can only control me.

I can only control my actions.

I can only have expectations of myself.

I can only be accountable for me and those around me.

I can only do my best to set an example.

I can only do what I can do.

As for you…

I can only hope everyone wants something better.

I can only hope everybody wants to be better versions of themselves.

I can only hope that people want to create a better world.

I can only hope that people want a world of civility.

I can only hope that everyone wants peace and happiness.

I can only hope. 

Hope is all I have.

I’m really feeling it…

It’s so meaningful to have support. The response to Free Bird has been amazing and I’m often overwhelmed by it all.

Not a day goes by that I don’t hear a kind word or see a post saying some really nice things about us.

Then, when I also see our sales continuing to grow, it’s just awesome.

As a young company, I can’t tell you how good that feels. I most certainly know that not everyone experiences this. I’m mindful of this and so very appreciative.

Me: Duck? Like to avoid being shot?
Wife: No just like waddle around….ugh….yes dummy, duck so you won’t get shot!
Me: What if a bullet hits me?
Wife: I will tell everyone you ducked up? Hahaha…
Me: You’re funny.
Wife: I know. I’ll have everybody quacking up.
Me: Omg
Wife: This is all your fault.
Me: Yes I know. Ugh. Duck me.

Free Bird isn’t about judgement of others.

Free Bird isn’t about what divides us.

Free Bird is about America.

Not my America.

Not your America.

Free Bird is about OUR America!

Sure, we’re a water brand, but we’re so much more.

Why? Because we choose to be. We love this country and we aren’t afraid to say it.

When life get complicated and dark, sometimes you just want something to hold on to. 

Sometimes you just want to find something that makes you feel a little better.

If Free Bird can make you feel a little more American, a little more free and, most certainly, a little less thirsty….well that’s a recipe we’ll endorse every day of the week.

Slow and steady wins the race…

Nope.

Slow and steady does not win the race…

Fight me.

Urgency wins the race.

Hustle wins the race.

Grit wins the race.

Commitment wins the race.

Resilience wins the race.

Determination wins the race.

Having a killer instinct wins the race.

If you want to be “in the race”…..be slow and steady.

If you want to “win the race”…..be a killer.

In retrospect…

Saying that we would all look the same if we were made into sausage was weird small talk for a funeral.

Therapist: So whats on your mind?
Me: I don’t like getting older.
Therapist: Go on.
Me: Even though I’m getting older, I like to joke around like I’m a teenager.
Therapist: Nothing wrong with youthful exuberance.
Me: Ok so I’m fine?
Therapist: You sound ok to me. What do you like to joke about?
Me: Just stuff.
Therapist: What kind of stuff?
Me: Well I’ve talked about starting a gang. I’ve said that the Hamburglar is trying to kill my family. One time I started telling people that I lived inside a Pizza Hut. Sometimes I like saying “pop a cap”. Last week I told someone that I’d fight a bear for money. Stuff like that.
Therapist: Umm…interesting. Have you ever thought about “going away for a while”?
Me: No but that sounds fun. Where?
Therapist: I’ll let you know. Right now why don’t you put on this white jacket. 
Me: Ok, what a cool jacket. Look at all the buckles and straps. This is so fun!!
Therapist: Yes it is. Here’s some ice to chew on.
Me: Awesome. Like a snowcone!! 
Therapist: Yes, like a snowcone. Just get in the van outside and get ready for your trip.
Me: Yay!! This is the best day ever.
Therapist: Yes it is. I’ll come visit.
Me: Ok great. That will be so fun.

If I’m being real…

I’ve spent a lifetime escaping.

If I’m being real…

I’ve spent my life chasing something.

If I’m being honest…

I’ve never even known what it was.

If I’m being transparent…

I still don’t.

If I’m being genuine…

It doesn’t even matter.

If I’m being brutally honest…

Happiness is fleeting.

If I’m being real…

Being real is being happy.

If I’m being real…

The ability to be yourself is everything.

If I’m being real…

I am.

Do you know BIG MO???

I love BIG MO…

BIG MO has met my family and has been living with us for a while. It’s been awesome….except that MO refuses to sleep and that can be annoying.

Yet MO can also be quite elusive. 

As wonderful as MO is, MO will also leave you sometimes out of nowhere…..

And then, there you are, on the floor, wearing a Scooby Doo onesie, eating ice cream out of the carton, crying during an episode of Golden Girls. (A friend told me that 😉)

It happens 🤷

Momentum can be unpredictable.

When you have a lot of positive things happening, often times, it builds. Soon enough, you’ll have the BIG MO. Having big momentum is awesome. 

Right now, Free Bird has big mo and it feels so good.

However, it can fade. Challenges will appear. Problems will emerge. 

How you handle those obstacles will, ultimately, determine whether you will be able to achieve a similar level of momentum again.

Just like momentum can build in a positive way, negative momentum can be a killer. That’s a snowball that you don’t want to play with. 

Learning how to effectively manage through these challenging circumstances will test you. Ineffective management will kill your ability to recover in a timely manner.

Treat MO with respect and MO will be your best friend.

Momentum is great when you can sustain it and it doesn’t always have to be amazing. Momentum can also reflect small wins. 

MO loves small wins just as much as big ones.

The better you execute will dictate your ability to sustain the big mo!
