The Superbowl week of marketing absolutely delivered!

Last week, 100s of marketers (including me) gathered in New York for AudiencePlus's Goldenhour and Pavilion's CMO Summit.

It was the must-go event/week of the year so far!

For those that couldn't make it, I wanted to share some highlights from the week:

☀️ Goldenhour

• The marketing innovation conference is what I'd call it. Lots of innovative ideas on how to work with creators, how to create more interesting and engaging content, and how to better leverage AI.
  
• Who you have in the room is equally as important as the content that's presented at an event—Goldenhour did a great job getting a bunch of interesting marketers in the room. I had the chance to meet a lot of LinkedIn/Twitter friends IRL and exchange ideas.

🧲 Pavilion CMO Summit

• Two of my favorite talks were from Latané Conant (she/her) and Peep Laja. Latané gave an incredible presentation about go-to-market alignment and Peep gave an awesome presentation on messaging. My favorite types of presentations get tactical and feel applicable to all stages of marketers, these two hit the mark.
  
• Again, a great group of marketers to spend time with. The Who at events matters.

🍱 Our (Captivate Talent) Marketing Leader Dinner co-sponsored with MadKudu, Mutiny, Navattic, and Sendoso

• Great events need great ancillary events so you can make a closer connection with those you meet. And we delivered on it. Great views of the city, great food, and great people. We had ~40 marketing leaders in attendance!
  
• Seat changing FTW—second time we've put together a seat change mid-way through the dinner. I think it's a must. Dinners are great at bringing people together in a more intimate setting but I always feel like I missed so many potential conversations by staying in the same seat. If you're hosting a dinner soon, this is one of my top recommendations.

Still catching up and digesting all of the incredible content and learnings but what an amazing week overall.

How we threw one of our best dinners ever during SaaSOpen (Next: Sept 5th, NYC) with ~30 amazing SaaS leaders and founders.

Despite 7 other competing dinners, we still brought an awesome group of people together.

Here's why I think everyone bragged about our dinner the next day:

✅ We brought in strong leaders early—the people there make or break the dinner. We leveraged our network from Captivate Talent to early invite a few leaders we knew others would want to meet.

✅ We shared the attendee list with all attendees a couple of days before the event—names, pictures, LinkedIns, everything you'd want to see that would make you want to sign up and not skip.

✅ We had seating changes midway through—I think the worst part about dinners is sometimes you stay at the same table for up to 3 hours. Seating changes midway really help ensure everyone meets everyone.

✅ We had the right plan—standing intros at the beginning and nametags are great way to help break the ice.

✅ We opted for lighter conversations—work topics are great but I think some of the best dinners I've been to allow for great personal connections. You spend all day at a conference sometime and you just want a real conversation, not always talking shop.

✅ We had an awesome partner—shoutout to James Ski for helping us bring great people and great energy to the event.

✅ Lastly, the venue and food were amazing! Tex-mex in Austin was definitely the right move. The right venue makes all the difference.

Been waiting a longgg time to drop this new SummarAIze feature.

We finally launched AI-generated video clips in SummarAIze.

You upload a video, we generate engaging clips for you from the most interesting parts of your recordings.

This works for audio content too, you can create audio clips.

We've been asked over and over by users for this.

But the big goal was to get the clips in a place where they add value and drive results, not just generate noise or create more work.

We feel like we did that here.

On my last video clips test, 4 out of the 7 clips I got were usable.

I think that's pretty insane for a v0 of this.

What's even crazier—this isn't even the feature I'm most excited to launch.

That one is coming next week 👀

Startup marketing reminder: Product isn't the only team that can impact product growth.

Conventional wisdom might lead you to wait for product to make significant changes.

But in the early stages, there's a lot that marketing can contribute too.

Case and point—for SummarAIze I've launched a couple of big things recently without having to wait to build it into the product.

1—We launched a custom prompt library through a Notion page to help our users to create content assets faster.

2—We just launched a way for users to earn free minutes for our product through reviews, social posts, mentions, etc.

Without operating in a startup marketing and growth mindset, we would've done this:
❌ Draft all the copy for the app pages needed
❌ Have a product designer design or update pages
❌ Have product code the page
❌ Have a product designer update based on feedback
❌ Have product update the page based on design updates

Instead, we get to do this:
✅ Write the copy for the app page needed in Notion
✅ Add the link for the page into the product
✅ No design work needed

Sure it doesn't embed as well into the product if you had a designer work on the page but this helps us to iterate a lot faster.

If the stuff we're shipping becomes popular, we can always make a more native version inside the product.

There are so many no code tools available right now that marketing and growth teams can use to test out ideas and keep the product moving.

These are just two examples, others might be—in-app notifications, guides, Zapier workflows, etc.

The best part about using no code too is usually the UX/UI is solid!
