Axon

Axon, formerly named TASER, develops de-escalation equipment of the latter name, body cameras, in-car cameras, drone partnerships, a records management systems, a 911 dispatch product with livestreaming of our cameras, and a portfolio of products in my area -- digital evidence management systems (DEMS).  

The $250M and growing DEMS product portfolio my team and I are responsible for includes an evidence management cloud platform called Axon Evidence (aka Evidence.com) for storage of all evidence from our cameras and 3rd party systems such as CCTV and home security cameras, playback, investigation, and preparation for court including sharing with prosecution and other attorneys.  There are also a set of evidence-related mobile apps -- Axon View for viewing and tagging recordings stored on an Axon Body Camera or in the Axon Evidence cloud, and Axon Capture enabling officers and investigators at the crime scene to capture photos, videos, audio interviews, or evidence from community members.

Results driven:

1. $100M in business from new premium add-ons to Axon Evidence including 3rd Party Video support which converts thousands of proprietary security camera video formats for native playback in our web experience, without police agencies needing to download and install hundreds of video players from the camera manufacturers.  

2.  Roadmapping and delivering several inter-agency features to unlock largest multi-agency deals in company history in terms of 100's of millions in revenue, and tens of thousands licenses and agencies -- 15 agencies in the British Colombia province, U.S. Federal agencies such as Customs and Border Patrol and US Marshals Service, and all the police agencies and prosecution in Scotland.

Head of Product, Evidence.com & Mobile Apps

Expedia Group

I led over a hundred Product Managers, Designers, Content Writers, Learning & Development professionals, & Analysts in the Conversation Platform & Customer Experience division, delivering mobile and desktop traveler and agent experiences for the company's many brands including Expedia.com, Hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity as well as for hundreds of B2B partners in support of the Expedia Partner Solutions division.  Over 25,000 of Expedia's and our B2B partners' travel agents use our cloud platform to help travelers Shop, Inquire, Book, Cancel, Change, or Refund their customer trips.

Researched product/market fit and invented a commercial, conversational AI-based travel agent platform for Expedia's many B2C brands (Expedia.com, Hotels.com, Travelocity, Orbitz, HomeAway/Vrbo, etc) today plus several big-name B2B partners live (Chase Bank, AMEX) or in the adoption pipeline.

Envisioned and delivered customer experience-driven KPI's such as:

1. "Enable self service experiences for 90% of the traveler inquiries Expedia receives."  Multi-year effort has resulted in a chat/self-service NPS that is 2.5x higher than having to call customer service for an Expedia Group B2C brand or B2B partner.  

2. "Save $20M and growing on an annualized basis, in operational cost savings from automation"

VP Product & Design, Expedia Conversation & Contact Center Platform

Microsoft

Led product managers defining the future of Microsoft's consumer (Microsoft account) and organization (Azure Active Directory) identitya-as-a-service (IaaS) cloud and UX platform, responsible for over 10B logins per day and 1,000,000+ apps globally. Delivered deeply integrated user experiences for every major Microsoft product from Xbox One game consoles to HoloLens, Skype, Office, and OneDrive - across Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS, and the web.  Our hosted experiences needed to seamlessly integrate with the mobile and desktop experiences of each product we integrated with, from Word/PowerPoint/Excel/Outlook iOS and Android apps to the Windows Phone OS.

Group Product Manager, Cloud Identity & Microsoft Account

As part of an overall strategy of bringing all forms of TV content to the Xbox One console, delivered Emmy-winning Live TV effort as part of highly confidential Xbox One launch.  Also delivered Kinect-based control via voice and IR of the TV and cable/satellite/AV receivers in the home including leading integration efforts with 3rd party remote control partners, so that the Xbox One could be a single media hub for the living room.  iPad/iPhone/Android apps were designed to control these Live TV experiences.

Principal Product Manager Lead, Xbox One

Rallied a small group of subject matter experts in the healthcare space, product managers, and designers to define and prototype the next generation of user experience and Microsoft solution offerings for patients, doctors, nurses, clinical researchers, and hospital administrators. Solely responsible for the day-to-day execution of said vision by 75-person cross-functional team in Redmond, Wash DC, & Beijing.  Effort became a central part of Caradigm, a joint venture between GE Healthcare and Microsoft.  Regularly represented Microsoft to Chief Medical Officer, CIO, and other execs at top medical institutions in the world including Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, and NYU Presbyterian.

Principal Product Manager Lead, Health Solutions Group

Event Innovation

As a member of the management team of this entrepreneurial venture, I led product vision, design, and development, focused on delivering 360-degree attendee intelligence to live event venues - stadiums, arenas, concerts, and performing arts centers. Robust attendee management system included Internet-connected ticket readers and financial transaction devices, data warehouse, feature-rich portal for venue managers, and a social ticketing portal for card members. The key way to access an event was via scan of a virtual membership card in the wallets of an iOS or Android device.

Well-received and followed closely by major ticketing leaders such as TicketMaster and Tickets.com.  Funding ran out during 2008 recession.

VP of Product, Design & Development

Led launch and follow-up releases of MSN Spaces; the fastest growing service in Microsoft’s history at the time with 140M users worldwide in 18 months. 

Drove cross-functional team of program managers, designers, and software engineers responsible for blogging, mobile, and social networking experiences across Microsoft.

Senior Lead Product Manager - Spaces & Social Platform

Joined Microsoft after acquisition of Jump.com and designed and delivered MSN Calendar based on original IP.  Contributed to two of the largest services on the planet -- Hotmail and MSN Messenger -- with hundreds of millions of users.  Incubated and spun Alerts off the Messenger team to leverage the real-time notification channel provided by the IM network we had built.

Jump Networks was acquired by Microsoft in 1999 and became MSN Calendar (now Outlook.com).

I have also been on the management teams of startups including Jump Networks which was acquired by Microsoft, and built or turned around teams at Microsoft, Expedia, and Axon.  

Product vision, idea incubation, and designing elegant end-to-end customer experiences are my first loves. I am a systems thinker who wholeheartedly believes that the magic of building great software is about burying the complexity behind intuitively-designed user experiences or no UX at all.
