When I was growing up, I was always drawn to dealmaking. Whether by creating the deal, by making crafts and selling them to friends, or finding a deal at a comic book show or baseball card convention that I knew I could turn into something bigger. It was what I loved, and I am grateful that I was able to translate this into a career in business development. Some people want to be baseball players, doctors, or firefighters, I always knew I wanted to be in sales.

I used to laugh at the idea of joining a “social group.”

Two reasons - I already have friends I don’t see enough, and my job to make friends. At least that’s how I explained it to the kids when they were babies.

This month I joined the Jaycees and spent Sunday morning stringing lights in our town square.

The Jaycees are a local group with a national network. We meet up, then give back. Think Track Friday after Thanksgiving, Santa Deliveries, and a community Toy Drive.

Credit where it’s due - Stephanie’s new venture, The Parks Planners, nudged me out of my comfort zone. Follow her on IG and Facebook!

The best part is now when I walk through town with my kids, I can point to the tree I helped light. Big bragging rights at home!

I didn’t know what I was looking at.
Did someone really name their company Eateme?

A surefire sign that something is… amiss.

Turns out, it’s Ateme. I had to Google it...which is the problem.

When you have to grab attention, there are two things you want to be unmistakably clear:
1. Your company name
2. The problem you solve

But when I locked eyes on this hanging sign, all I could see was “Eat Me.”

Not because that is the name, but because my brain (which proudly operates at the humor level of a 12-year-old boy) simply could not unsee it.

Branding pros, what would you change about this graphic so no one else sees “Eat Me” ever again?
