Miura - Looking Further

Miura is an international brand and digital agency. We help clients achieve business growth through a customer-centred approach to strategy, experience design and transformation. 

With a team of 15 spanning strategy, design and technology I ran the agency alongside the founder with a specific focus on the client experience, new business, contract negotiation and operations.

My role was to immerse myself in my client’s world, evangelise about the power of emerging technologies to drive business growth and help them embrace digital transformation so that they can go further, faster. 

Whether developing a mobile game for a global financial services brand, a digital sales platform for an international manufacturer or helping a real estate giant build a destination brand for a flagship London development; my role was to distil complexity into insightful, creative thinking that sticks and to produce award-winning work with impact.

Partner & Client Director

As an independent consultant I have delivered the following projects: 
- Developed the business case for a new photo sharing social enterprise and successfully pitched for £50,000 seed finance from NESTA and the Cabinet Office
- Technology feasibility report for the mobile sexual health startup SH24
- Commercialisation of a digital camera system developed by the production company One of Us, for the cult sci-fi movie “Under the Skin”

Innovate UK

Innovation is vital for business growth. Our aim is simple - to accelerate economic growth by stimulating and supporting business-led innovation. As a Design Mentor my role was to work with UK firms to embed design methods, tools and approaches into R&D activities to support innovation and growth and leave a legacy of improved internal capabilities.

Artists & Engineers

I was an original founding member of the production company Artists & Engineers. In the early days I worked with my co-founders to define the value proposition, brand and initial go-to-market strategy. Uniting the disciplines of art, design & technology - the vision was to offer production services to artists, brands and cultural organisations and deliver immersive experiences through sound, images, interaction and new technology. I stepped away from the business after initial launch but the agency has gone on to work on exciting commissions for Google, National Geographic & IKEA.

Design Council

The Design Council is the UK’s national strategic body for design. Working as part of the Business & Strategy Team, I was responsible for developing and delivering design-led innovation services to help public and private sector clients innovate and build innovation capability.  
- Based on the ‘Double Diamond’ design thinking methodology I developed mentoring, training and creative workshop services for business, government and startup clients
- Recruited and managed a roster of 50+ approved ‘Design Associates’ (expert industry practitioners) to deliver accredited Design Council services 
- Developed ‘plug and play’ operational model so that Design Council services could be delivered nationally at scale by third-party delivery agents
- Managed a diverse range of stakeholder groups including charity sponsors and corporate clients including Virgin, Hewlett Packard, The IP Group and The Department of Health.
- Developed a new innovation service for university clients and led pitch to secure an additional £1m grant funding from the Government to roll out the service across the UK
- Sold this new service to 11 university clients and supported 30 research teams to develop viable commercialisation plans, raise investment, and achieve license deals and spinout companies. Notable successes include Navetas, Sugru and SnapFashion
- Conducted a review of service portfolio on behalf of Executive Board and was a member of a working group that shaped The Council’s 5-year vision and operational plan

Head of Design and Innovation Services

Booz Allen Hamilton

Booz Allen is global management consultancy firm with expertise in business strategy, technology and organisational change. For their Government division I worked internationally on economic development programmes funded by the United States Agency for International Development. 

My role was to advise SMEs in emerging markets on how to harness the power of design to improve competitiveness. 
- Worked with business leaders to identify opportunities to exploit design to develop new premium priced products, add value and enter lucrative export markets.
- Technical assistance I provided included customer research, corporate brand identity, digital, packaging, innovation/NPD strategies & tradeshow preparation
