     ↳ My puppy threw up in the office and then had blood in his you know what... rushed him to the vet. He was stable but had to go on a bunch of drugs for 10 days $730. 

Monday October 27th 
     ↳ Got an email from Austin Energy informing me I may have a leak due to high water consumption 
     ↳ Had three separate plumbers come out and give their assessment 
     ↳ They all identified a slab leak (any homeowner's worst nightmare) 
     ↳ Got quotes for $18,000 $15,000 and $13,000 to redo my entire plumbing system 

Tuesday October 28th 
     ↳ Negotiated down to $10,700 to repipe the entire house... oof

Wednesday - Friday
     ↳ In the midst of EOQ madness, my entire house was being ripped apart (still have 20+ holes in my drywall that I need to get repaired.

Wednesday November 5th
     ↳ Come home to find that my dog had once again thrown up everywhere and once again had blood in his yanno what. 
     ↳ Rushed him back to the vet
     ↳ Blood and organ levels were once again stable, back on more drugs 
     ↳ $700 poof (but his health is beyond priceless)

I share this for a few reasons. 

1. In the midst of all of this, plus the EOQ stress I was so grateful to have a team of incredible humans; it made the world feel lighter even when Murphy's law was fully doing its thing. 

2. It made me extremely grateful to have a career where $14,000 is incredibly inconvenient and painful to spend, but it isn't life-altering or unrecoverable. 

3. It made me really grateful that in high school, Caleb Fine made us watch hours and hours of Dave Ramsey, and that I had my emergency fund ready to rock for such events. 

4. It made me practice the Mel Robbins mentality of 'Let them' and not over-index on things outside of my control. 

All in all the doggy is feeling a lot better, the pipes are workig, the sun is still rising, and life is still beautiful.

Dear LinkedIn,

I think there are a few small tweaks you could make that could drastically improve the user experience of your platform. 

1. Showing posts from 2-3 weeks ago isn’t super helpful. If I didn’t engage with the post when it was posted it probably isn’t super interesting to me now. Consider prioritizing new and fresh posts in people’s feeds. 

2. When I click on someone’s profile and click on their company it means I want to go to their company page, not the section of their experience related to that company. Small complaint but it just doesn’t make a ton of sense as it’s currently constructed.

3. I understand LinkedIn at the end of the day is a social media platform, but people already have instagram and TikTok, can we stray away from prioritizing selfies.

Don’t automatically assume that someone on LinkedIn is a great seller, don’t automatically assume they aren’t.

Q3 is coming to its final hours, I can't share details on performance but let's just say I am REMARKABLY proud of my team.

I feel honored to get to be in the trenches with each of you. This year has been the most rewarding year of work I have ever had... and we are just getting started. 

Q4 here we come baby!

In May of 2023, I accepted a job offer with an OTE of $320,000.

This is not a flex, it's actually a moment of vulnerability. 

I made a big mistake by taking it, and learned the hard way that a big shiny OTE should not be at the top of your list when it comes to picking a job. 

I left that job after 6 months; even if I had stayed, I certainly would not have made $320,000. 

Taking that job actually ended up costing me close to $80,000... tough pill to swallow. 

But it was a valuable lesson and was one I wish I didn't learn the hard way. 

I hope someone reading this can learn from my mistake so they don't have to learn the hard way. 

OTE is a shiny object that gets flashed in front of a seller, and I admit firsthand that it can be seemingly impossible not to get excited by some lofty number.

But OTE is far less important than the following:

1. Is there a real, repeatable, and consistent path towards overperformance?
2. Is there a strong product-market fit? 
3. Do you absolutely love the product?
4. How is the existing team really performing, and what are they really making?

It's been really interesting in the last year I have a whole new mechanism to diagnose the health of a deal and it doesn't even happen in Gong. Which is new for me. 

Since February, my team has been using trumpet 🎺 for our Digital Sales Rooms. 

I expected it to be a nice, clean place to collaborate and store content. 

What I did not expect was it to unlock a whole new method for assessing how serious a deal was. 

In the past quarter, all but one of our new business deals that ended up closing reached a trumpet score of 75+. 

More importantly, though, it has become another way to diagnose risk. 

You know those deals where you leave a call questioning how interested they really are? Are they just dragging this out and kicking tires?

Now I can get a glimpse into if that is the case based on their trumpet engagement. 

If your 'Champion' or 'Prospect' is not spending time in the trumpet room consuming content, looking at videos, sharing stuff internally... you may not have much of a deal.
