Keep hearing that HR has to “earn” its seat at the table.

HR doesn't need to earn anything. HR practically is the table.

HR optimizes one of the biggest investments in a business: people.

Yes, there’s work to do to educate others on the true value of HR.

And equip HR to speak in a language that others at the table get.

Every other department has to do that to some degree.

But that “earn” language keeps the function a rung lower and fuels the myth.

With AI, HR’s role only gets bigger - since it's a people issue, not a tooling one.

2026 has to be the year we change this narrative.

Or am I missing something here?

2/3 of HR teams already use AI. But most say adoption is stuck in neutral. (HR Magazine, 2025). That’s less a tooling problem, more a change problem.

It’s a fine balance between:
- Going deep to find the right solution (and risk falling behind)
- Moving fast with experiments (and risk falling flat)

Along the way, the hard thing is convincing peers, galvanising leadership, communicating the change, and proving progress - alongside the day job.

Where it works is when HR leads like a product manager.

They:
- Set expectations and bring people along
- Clarify the vision but test small and measure fast
- Limit employee behaviour change to drive adoption
- Don’t underestimate the impact on their own team
- Work tightly with IT but own the roadmap
- Balance build vs. buy (you likely need both)
- Push vendors to partner on adoption, not just tools

When those line up, AI turns from experiments to how work gets done.
