Has your significant other ever came to you and asked, “Do you want to start a business together?” and then you said yes because it was 2005, and you were living in Austin, and there were absolutely no other jobs to be had. Wow, we were going to start a business together, something that she was 110% versed in and I basically just had a basic understanding of what she did for a living. “First things first”, she said, “I need you to learn how to make a website, and do graphics, and sales, ohh, I need you to start researching online tools you think we will need”. Then she asked me to call her friend Brian that she used to work with, he said that he would help me with website programming and he was also good with graphics “stuff”. She left the room, I stood there staring at the empty doorway wondering what in the world I had just said yes to. My background up to that point was IT, machines that never needed to be called or followed up with or had objections to overcome and my sales skills at the time were ehhh. But I knew how important this was going to be for us, so I got to work. After licking our wounds after our first show in Houston, my wife found a place in Katy, and she just had her 17th annual event. Along the way, I taught myself skills that have helped the company be successful. 〙Being a website manager, handling shared and stand alone servers, security, and site set ups. 〙Building online tools and finding subscription tools that save time and money. 〙Being a professional web developer using the latest languages including PHP/MySQL. This includes font-end and back-end development. 〙Creating relationships and negotiating with media companies on ad buys, both print and digital. 〙Using Adobe Creative Suite for graphic design, image editing, producing layouts and video creation. 〙Creating responsive emails and sending them using a self-hosted program called Sendy. 〙Working with clients and customers, guiding them through the sales process. Currently there are a lot of recycled assets and her Illustrator skills have gotten pretty darn good, I guess I am a good teacher. She hasn’t learned to code yet so I still assist when it is “show time”. After 2008 set us back a few steps I made my exit and have been working full time outside of the company since. My life on the outside, I am a husband, a father, who spends his free time doing cross fit and mountain bike riding.
