I'm officially a dual citizen!!!

As I keep advancing in my career, I aim to play at a global level.

I've worked hard (and will continue to work hard) to develop the cultural and language skills to do so.

Now, I even have the citizenship to do so 🌎 

Born and raised in Minnesota, I speak English as a native language and am authorized to work in the US.

I learned German in high school and studied in Austria for a semester in college, getting my German up to an advanced level (C1 on the CEFR scale).

Then, I met my wife who's from South Korea and started learning Korean, which is quantifiably 3 times harder than German, so my Korean is still only at a beginner level (A2), but I'm on track to break into intermediate territory (B1) by the end of this year.

Through my marriage with her, I'm authorized to work in South Korea.

Now, with a second citizenship myself, we can live/work/study/retire in any EU country.

Triple citizen household - talk about a power couple 💪 

My overarching career goal is to be a global biotech leader, so this citizenship certainly helps with the global aspect.

I've been posting about biotech on LinkedIn for a while (thank you to my 19K followers!), sometimes through an international lens, and I'll probably emphasize my global perspective a bit more moving forward.

My last name Bissen comes from Luxembourg, and because of my direct lineage, I was apparently born a citizen - I just didn't realize it.

How to build a personal brand that sets you apart in biotech 🧬

Just. Start. Posting!

I know, easier said than done, so here's the process I recommend to anyone getting started on LinkedIn.

First, make sure your profile is actually set up (picture, headline, bio, experience, etc.).

Then, instead of diving right into your own content, start by leaving *thoughtful* comments on other posts.

To come up with your posts, jot down ideas as you get inspiration throughout the week 💡 

You probably have more content ideas than you realize - something you learned, an insight you shared with a colleague, a challenge you're dealing with, your opinion on recent biotech news.

Finally, start posting once a week, then twice, then three times, etc.

Find a sustainable schedule, keep commenting, and send targeted invites to grow your network.

You got this 👏 

This isn't just theoretical knowledge by the way.

It's the exact process I used to build a dedicated following of 19,000+ life science professionals.

LinkedIn has become such a habit for me that I now post 5-7 times a week, which translates into over 220,000 impressions (views) per month, or at least 2.6 million per year.

This in turn has a DIRECT impact on new collaborations, career opportunities, and revenue generation for my work in biotech sales.

So, trust me when I say I know LinkedIn can be hard work, but it's absolutely worth it 😊

I was checking out some rankings from U.S. News & World Report (source in the comments below).

Went ahead and organized the list in a pie chart to visualize where the top ones are clustered.

Not terribly surprised to see the US and UK taking up a little over half the pie 🇺🇸🇬🇧 

Then there's Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, and China making up the next quarter 🇦🇺🇳🇱🇩🇪🇨🇳

And Hong Kong, Canada, France, and Switzerland making up the next eighth 🇭🇰🇨🇦🇫🇷🇨🇭

The bottom eighth isn't specified in the chart but includes Singapore, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Norway, and Finland 🇸🇬🇧🇪🇸🇦🇯🇵🇩🇰🇸🇪🇪🇸🇳🇴🇫🇮
