I transitioned from being a Business Research Analyst to a Software Engineer and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I have worked professionally as a Software Engineer for the past 6 years and I absolutely love it! For the majority of my career, my focus has been on Backend Development and primarily working with Microsoft technologies, including C#, SQL Server, ASP.NET MVC and Core. I also really enjoy learning new technologies outside of work and have earned two AWS certifications, dived into Python and some front-end technologies, including Angular and React. At its core, my greatest joy as a Software Engineer is the opportunity to learn and become better at what I do. I figured out early on that to succeed in this profession, I would always need to embrace learning and challenge myself to better understand the technologies I work with. I've been fortunate enough to work with many intelligent people and learn from them in order to become a better Software Engineer as well as embracing platforms such as Pluralsight, Educative, Zero to Mastery, YouTube and blogs. Becoming more technically competent and confident is very important to me. As much as I want to improve my technical skills, another aspect of being a Software Engineer that I enjoy is the ability to improve my communication skills and to work with people across multiple departments. By reaching out to and working with individuals across Engineering, Product, Data, Sales, and Content departments, I have gained a much better understanding of how my role supports other areas of the business. I always try to take time to understand what goals other people are trying to achieve and how I can be of help. When working for a company, I want to understand the impact that I'm able to have on the business and to go above and beyond in order to maximize it. In a nutshell, I will always work at becoming more skilled as a Software Engineer and treat my profession as a craft. When working for a company, I will take the time to understand what's important to the business and how I can work individually and with others to help them achieve their goals and maximize my overall impact to the business.
