Manager - Sustainable Solutions Practice

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)

Embedded within the City of Columbus Office of Sustainability through the Bloomberg Philanthropies American Cities Climate Challenge. Responsible for leading a variety of climate, equity, and energy policy and program initiatives: 

ENERGY BENCHMARKING ORDINANCE:
- Led Columbus’ efforts to write, pass, and implement an Energy and Water Benchmarking and Transparency Ordinance, including working directly with City departmental leadership, City Council members, and external buildings-sector stakeholders. The policy was voted into law by City Council in 2020 and went into effect in 2021.
- Implemented a 9-month external stakeholder engagement process, holding more than 100 one-on-one meetings with building owners and community-based organizations, leading five Benchmarking Advisory Group meetings, and presenting at City Council’s public hearing.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE (EV) PARKING ORDINANCE:
- Implemented a community co-creation process to develop an Equitable EV Ready Parking Ordinance for the City of Columbus; met with stakeholders 1:1 and created a coalition of those organizations to meet bi-monthly to design a policy that will increase the number of EV chargers in Columbus and expand access to EV chargers for underserved communities.
- Led stakeholder engagement with more than 50 one-on-one meetings with local organizations and facilitated six co-creation workshops with partners. The policy was voted into law by City Council in 2022 and will go into effect in 2024. 

CLIMATE ACTION PLAN (CAP):
- Served as a technical advisor on Columbus’ Climate Commitments Working Group and drafted the City’s first-ever CAP, which includes 40+ actions across major sectors to adapt and mitigate the impacts of climate change; the plan was adopted by the Mayor’s Office and City Council in 2021. 
- Wrote and implemented an equitable community engagement plan, alongside local partners, focusing on engagement in historically disenfranchised neighborhoods and BIPOC communities.

Climate Advisor

The Cadmus Group

Supported the design and implementation of energy efficiency programs and decarbonization strategies for existing buildings for local, state, and federal governments and private sector clients:
- Worked in support of EPA’s ENERGY STAR Commercial and Industrial buildings program.
- Provided support to local and state governments passing energy and water benchmarking and disclosure laws. 
- Supported federal government clients through LEED EB: O+M Volume documentation and certification efforts.
- Consulted on LEED EB: O+M projects for commercial real estate firms nationwide.
- Served as an embedded contractor for DC-adjacent county government in support of green buildings programs focused on new construction development.
- Reviewed and provided feedback to federal agencies documenting compliance with the Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings.

Associate

Orange County Government

Worked in a cohort to assess the energy efficiency of existing buildings in the region:
- Received training and became proficient with the EPA's ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tool to track energy consumption of various buildings in the Central Florida area. 
- Assisted the University of Central Florida and Orange County Government with energy management tracking by gathering energy usage data and analyzing their derived ENERGY STAR performance ratings.

Energy Specialist

Volusia County Environmental Department

- Manipulated Excel spreadsheets of X, Y data.
- Created new shapefiles and tabular data.
- Manipulated data using spatial analyst tools to create map documents and provide analysis.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Volunteer

I have ten years of project management and leadership experience in the climate and sustainability field with a proven track record leading the development and implementation of a wide variety of climate, energy, and equity initiatives. I'm passionate about authentic relationship building and advancing equitable climate solutions across all sectors. Currently I'm a Manager on the Net Zero team with Mantis Innovation leading ambitious building decarbonization strategy for commercial clients. In my previous role with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), I served as the climate policy advisor for the City of Columbus. I led teams to develop, pass, and implement two local government ordinances (Energy Benchmarking and EV Ready Parking), win a ballot initiative to create a Community Choice Aggregation program with 100% local renewable energy, and co-draft and implement Columbus' first Climate Action Plan to guide community-wide efforts to reach carbon neutrality.
