"Why can't you hold a job?"
I couldn't believe the interviewer had just asked me that.


This happened back in 2005, when I was interviewing for a part time job.

A lot has changed since 2005, although my job-hopping habit never changed.

The longest job on my resume was three years—in tech years, that's like 10—and I had been promoted three times, doubled my salary, and left for an executive-level role.

Over the years I've interviewed hundreds of people, made countless of hiring decisions as a hiring manager, and workplace norms have been greatly disrupted.

Which is why I think it's so silly we're still having the job hopping conversation.

So let me expose the schtick:
- Company pays as little as possible to hire someone (outdated standard still widely used), offers mediocre working conditions, forces employees back into the office.
- Employee feels underappreciated, looks elsewhere, finds job that pays +20-30% at least. 
- Employee quits, company men whine about lack of loyalty - conducts major layoff the following quarter.

Which leads to something a lot of people are asking me about: are careers dead?

Job hopping pays more, promotions are becoming harder to get, and there is no security.

Well, I have thoughts and I'm preparing a video because none of the discourse I have seen has connected the correct dots together.

But I will give you a spoiler: Traditional careers died long ago.

The reason I succeeded and was rapidly promoted (as a woman in tech no less) was this: I always thought of my career differently than everyone else. 

The only people who had the same approach to their careers also got new jobs and promotions with ease.

The shift is super simple - which is why I'm shocked *no one* is talking about it.

I'll explain it in the video, because I think it will be the only way to succeed in the future of work.

The reason why has nothing to do with your potential or the value you bring.

It has everything to do with your potential.

Apparently I'm not a *real* immigrant.
Turns out Canada is just a state 🤨


Nearly 13 years ago I immigrated from Canada, and arrived in NYC.

I grew up a 20 minute drive from the US border. My nana had a weekend place in Birch Bay, WA so we went across the line often. 

Honestly, I thought the US and Canada were almost the same. 

That is until I moved here. 

For starters, despite the fact the last company I worked for in Canada had a 90% American user base, my resume didn't have American experience. 

I had a visa (L2) and work authorization a lot of people weren't familiar with, so companies didn't believe I didn't require sponsorship. 

And ofc no one has heard of my university, and I had no network. 

My husband's visa, and our ability to stay here, was tied to his job. If something happened - we were out. 

When we got our green cards 4.5 years after moving here, it brought some relief... we couldn't get kicked out. 

Or could we? Because in January 2017, green card holders from certain countries were denied entry. 

As a white Canadian I intellectually knew we wouldn't be targeted, we'd be ok, but it instilled a terror in me that loomed for 4 years.

I cannot imagine how *targeted* immigrants felt. 

Just like I can't imagine how scary these layoffs have been for visa holders who have been laid off from tech companies over the last two years. 

In 2020 my husband and I qualified to apply for citizenship, after nearly 10 years living here.

We put in our applications, had extensive background checks conducted, medical clearances, and prepped for the civics test. 

On March 26, 2021 we officially became citizens. 

The longer I live here, the more distinction I see in our cultures. 

Some major ones are shockingly major. 

Many are nuanced.

Which is to say, Canada isn't a state. 

And while it's *a lot* about my immigration journey that has been privileged and incomparable to those who move here, don't speak the language, and can't 'blend in' the way I could...

I am still a (proud) immigrant.

I'd love to hear thoughts from others that have moved here. 

What was your experience like?

The highest growth periods in my career have all had 3 things in common, and what they are will shock you.


The first one is one we talk about a lot when it comes to wellness at work, but not enough when it comes to success...

✨ The Right Work Environment ✨

I talk all the time about the costs of a toxic workplace - but the upside of a positive and productive one that supports you? 

Each acceleration point in my career took place when I was in a work situation where I was supported, obstacles were removed, and I was given autonomy (and trust) to succeed.

✨ Work less ✨

Early in my career, I had a boss who tried to offset revenue loss from a crumbling economy by demanding me and my coworkers work more. 60 hours a week. Then 80. Then 100.

That last one is when I handed in my notice.

When I got 3 promotions plus a substantial pay increase - I was capping my workweek at 45 hours. 

Productivity requires rest.

(I remind myself of this regularly because I tend to hyperfocus)

✨ Have Fun ✨

The most professionally rewarding times in my career also were the times I had the most fun.

Like the time at Salesforce my former boss and I dragged 5 whiteboards into a circle in a room at the end of Dreamforce, kicked off our shoes, and modeled out program concepts to decide which to bring to life.

Or basically any time I get to deliver training or do a speaking engagement in person.

When you're aligned with your potential, success becomes easy and fun.

Let's get receipts out of the way. I have
+141,000 subscribers on YouTube
+118,000 followers on Tiktok (spending less than 5 minutes a day)
+31,000 followers on Instagram (where I post + ghost in 60 seconds or less)
+31,000 here on LinkedIn (where I don't spend 8 hours commenting for reciprocity and don't have anything to do with pods)

My top long-form YouTube video is approaching 1,700,000 views, while my top TikTok (i spent less than minutes planning, recording, editing, and posting) has +11,400,000 views.

I don't dupe content. I don't actually watch any so-called competitor in my space (and I don't compete with anyone aside from my nemesis but that's a story for another day)

So how do I get massive attention: I know my customer better than they know themselves.

The most common comment and DM I get is in the vein of 'it's like you're reading my mind'

If you follow business coaches and gurus they'll talk about knowing their avatar. 

Ya know, demographics, psychographics, some pain points you can turn on them.

If that's all you know, you don't know them at all.

That's superficial stuff. Often it's their false self. 

Unless you're solving a superficial problem (which ofc you're not), it's not enough to get their attention, help them know their problem, and most importantly make them aware of how you can help them.

It doesn't build a relationship.

That's why you might have had a one hit wonder moment where you had a post go viral, but then your reach died.

If you're hanging on the socials to grow your business knowing how to stop the scroll, hook attention, and convert the right customer is a non-negotiable. 

You're literally wasting time if you don't know how (or if you need to comment on posts for 2 hours for yours to get any reach).

The solution is simple: the Customer-Centered Content System

Over the years, my Fractional Chief Content Officer and I have developed a system that gets mad results.

It's how I scaled from 10K on Youtube, 5K on Tiktok, 100 on Insta, and 5k here. 

It's how I've been able to help THOUSANDS of people get out and over toxic jobs, rapidly build out a speaking and training business, and TBH have fun doing it.

Because when you know how to speak to *your peeps* it's easy.

There is something I've always been very good at.
It's something most people struggle with, but the struggle is solved with a simple strategy.

I've always been able to get attention.

When I was a kid, people chalked it up to me being a cute little girl.

When I graduated from university and started my career, people chalked it up to me being young and bubbly.

When I started creating content online, people chalked it up to me being conventionally attractive. 

For a long time, I believed them.

But last year I started analyzing attention - and I realized they were completely wrong.

While my appearance hasn't hurt, I'm by no means the prettiest girlie out there (TBH I'm like a New York 4, and that's probably generous).

In fact, I've had people approach me at random and at events saying they were simply drawn to me - even when there were more vivacious, charismatic, and attractive people around.

(I'm a shy introvert with social anxiety to be clear)

Yet I've built a massive online audience and never struggled with visibility at work. 

How did I do it?

Well... there is a system, which I'll be talking more about for the next few weeks, especially as I construct the next era of my career, but it comes down to something really simple:

Intuitively and intentionally, I focus on what people care about.

You stopped your scroll because I opened this post with something *you* care about, and that's how I got your attention.

Now, it's easy to tell you thing, it's gonna be harder for you to learn and perfect.

I may or may no have something percolating to help 👀

Over the years I've had a lot of content go massively viral. 

Anytime something performs well, it's duped. 

Want an example? Search 'Coworkers Are Not Your Friends' on YouTube. My video l made years ago was massively popular, so almost every other Creator in my space copied it.

The above almost every Business Coach gives us find what works and duplicate it. 

Which works. But it also makes who you feel a fraud and it is doing a disservice to you and your customer. 

I've been able to consistently create content that gets my ideal customer's attention for a simple reason

(and it doesn't involve looking at what my so called competitors are doing) 

I know my customer better than I know themselves. 

Again: *you cannot be a leader if you're following someone else.*

But how do you get attention if you're not drawing let's call it inspiration? 

You become a Scroll Stopper.

✨ Doesn't increase your effort (tbh it probably decreased it)

Let's be honest... when you started posting on LinkedIn you thought it was going to be easy.


(A post for the coaches, consultants, and speakers who lurk my posts)

Gary Vee talks about all the attention and how easy it is to go viral on LinkedIn.

So you started posting... but it's not getting you anywhere.

And this is supposed to be the *easy* platform.

Okay besties, let's talk about it because the truth is this: 

Getting attention online is ridiculously easy.

The problem is that most people miss a crucial step. They think they've done it, but they haven't.

And it's why your LinkedIn posts are struggling, your videos are getting 5 views, and your ideal customers aren't in your DMs *begging* for a way to work with you.

When I started my YouTube channel 5 years ago (!!!) I didn't want to be a sad channel that got no views.

Quickly, I realized this one foundational element I could ace... and once I did my views, subscribers, and paying customers all skyrocketed.

Because once I knew this one thing - I could stop their scroll on ANY platform.

It's led to:
▶️ YouTube: 141,800 subs, 12.8M views (almost exclusively long-form video) 
🎵 TikTok: 121,000 followers, 2.5M likes, top video has 11.4M views
📸 Instagram: 31,700 followers, posting no original content
💼 LinkedIn: 31,489 followers, no pod, and I spend max 10 minutes a day here

And it's so simple: I know my ideal customer better than they know themselves.

This is key to getting attention.

This is key to getting *them* results.

There's so much discussion about avatars and ideal customers... but aside from a demographics, a few psychographic, and maybe a list of their pain points (ya know, so you can market to them with fear and exploit their trauma).

Which is to say you don't know them at all.

One of the top comments I get is 'How are you reading my mind!?'

Well, I developed a system to read minds (no crystal ball required). 

This system has been developed over 3 years (and tens of thousands of dollars)  with my CCO. 

I can confidently say it's unlike anything I've seen elsewhere.

And Doug and I want to share it with you.

Back in 2018, I started doing one thing differently, and it completely changed my life.
(even though I *hated* doing it) 

After an intense few years, several major life changes, and a high pressure role in senior leadership a rapidly scaling tech company that has me on the road +50% of the time, I was neglecting the most important thing I had. 

My health. 

I was an athlete growing up and hitting up the gym, the yoga studio, or just going for a run has always been a part of my life. 

But it has gone off the rails. 

At the end of a long day, sometimes going to multiple cities and states for meetings, I was not motivated to work out. 

Of course Mondays are the most hectic, especially when you're working with globally distributed teams like I was. 

Once I skipped my Monday workout, well I was off track so might as well skip Tuesday, and you know what happens after that. 

With that my overall wellness was tanking.

I know momentum and motivation required a kick in the pants, so I decided to do something radical to shift it. 

I started my week on the habit I wanted to carry the rest of the day and week. 

I started signing up for 6am classes at Peloton (in studio!).

I am *not* a morning person, but I'd drag myself out of bed at 4:45am to get to get ready and go to class. 

After class I was always glad I did it. 

And it has a domino effect. Since I took care of myself in the morning, I would focus on nutrition to support my muscles. I hydrated. And I'd work out the next day too. 

While my Monday morning routine has shifted over the years, it continues to set a tone for my week. 

This morning I enjoyed an early pilates class at my favorite studio (BK Pilates).

The scapegoat dynamic is one where you are blamed by default, for everyone's problems, whether or not they have anything to do with you. 

Over the years I've helped hundreds of people through this problem and the worst part is this: 

They have no idea how to STOP being the scapegoat. 

They can't imagine a way for holding others accountable because that has never been safe, never been a possibility in their lives.

That's why scripts don't work when this dynamic is at play. 

There are beliefs, behaviors, and habits that are INVISIBLE that keep you trapped in this dynamic. 

If you want to break the pattern you need to
✨ Expose them
✨ Identify where they live
✨ Upgrade them

This is how you shift your boundaries, expectations and energy.

Signs you're the scapegoat at work

Stop spending 2 hours a day commenting on posts, praying for reciprocity... and calling it a content strategy.  (Cue: Shameless Self Promotion)

LinkedIn is a funny place. High visibility potential - but it requires:
- Hours of action, commenting and clapping,  on your part
- Hours of action by a VA on your party (against ToS)
- Joining an unofficial engagement group that prides itself on not being a pod, but everyone stops talking to you if you don't comment on their post.
- Join an actual pod (against ToS, but low-key sanctioned by LinkedIn)
- Create scroll-stopping content - and bring it elsewhere (ok latter part optional)

 If you're a thought leader and content-led coach, consultant, or small business owner: it needs to be the last one.

Pod-boosted engagement is cheating. I know you don't want to do that.

You also don't have 2-4 (or 8) hours like the people who reciprocity their way to prominance (until they burnout and ghost the platform).

TBH, I used to be that person. 

But I got tired, and LinkedIn suspended my account for a minute (lmk if you want the story)

If you've followed me for a minute though, you know LinkedIn has always been my side chick. It was for fun and networking really, because here's my stats on other platforms:

▶️ YouTube: 141,508 subs, 12.8M views (almost exclusively long-form video) 
🎵 TikTok: 119,400 followers, 2.5M likes, top video has 11.4M views
📸 Instagram: 31,500 followers, posting no original content
💼 LinkedIn: 31,422 followers, no pod, and I spend max 10 minutes a day here rn

I sell out my programs and workshops.

When I announced a return to corporate training and speaking my DMs went wild.

Oh... and until January I worked part time since 2020 (I have a 4 day work week now).

My success started on YouTube with long form video, ya know the hardest type of content.

Everyday I get Creators sliding my DMs asking how I did it.

When I started my YouTube channel five years ago, I knew one thing: I didn't want to be one of the sad channels with videos that get like 5 views.

TBH there's a lot of them out there.

I have found zero of this to be hard for a very simple reason: I know my customer better than they know themselves.

If you're a coach, consultant, or content-led business owner you probably *think* you know your avatar. 

But if you know demographics, psychographics, and a list of pain points... you only know them superficially. 

The consequence of you only knowing their superficial selves is this:
- You get less than 50 likes from attention attraction posts on LinkedIn (and less than 1,000 on TikTok)
- Your DMs are quieter than a library
- You can't even give your workshops, guidebooks, etc away for free

All of this is for a simple reason: You don't know how to stop your ideal customer's scroll.

Now, that system I mentioned... my CCO and I developed it over 3 years. 

When we got it to the level is it, it was a 🤯🤯🤯 moment when we realized what we had done.

Why do coaches take accountability for their clients success, but not their failures?




This is the strangest phenomenon I see in this space. 

Coaches take credit for their client wins, but when one of their clients is not successful... they blame their client.

Screenshots and celebrations about the people who get results. 

But what aren't they showing you? 

The customers who asked for a refund because they were so displeased with the service they received (and they have a no refund policy).

That most of their success stories would have been success stories with our without them - because they have never heard of PMF so they definitely don't know the role or plays. 

That a simple run of the numbers shows their service doesn't work. 

FFS they trick into attending their sales pictures using timeshare tactics (free workshop! free coaching call!).

This doesn't mean coaching on the whole is a worthless scam. 

I've benefitted from softball coaches, mindset coaching, and trauma recovery coaching personally. 

But I want you to make informed decisions with your money. 

Forget the fancy promises, ask how they'll put their money where their mouth is. 

And consider this: maybe you don't need a coach to help up uncover your inner knowing. Maybe you need a consultant with proven experience to help you achieve that your goal.
