I am a Partner at Amundsen Davis's Chicago office, and my practice focuses on the provision of consulting and litigation services to the health care industry and its medical systems and providers.

I have successfully defended clients in a wide range of medical malpractice and healthcare-related claims, including birth injuries, nursing home and long term care facility litigation, and delayed diagnosis/misdiagnosis claims, as well as products/medical device liability, premises liability, wrongful termination actions, and personal injury disputes involving foreign governments, at the pre-suit, trial, and appellate levels.

I also regularly advise clients and provide health care provider education regarding AKS, FCA, Stark, and other whistle-blower claims, patient privacy concerns and HIPAA compliance, licensing and credentialing issues, NPDB reporting, MMSEA legislation and reporting requirements, and the applicability of the Illinois Medical Studies Act. I have also received the CHC (Certified in Healthcare Compliance)  amd CHPC (Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance) designations from the Compliance Certification Board.

As a law clerk at Hofeld & Schaffner, I drafted a successful appellate brief on the issue of hospital consent forms in apparent agency cases (Schroeder v. Northwest Community Hospital, 1-05-2594), assisted in preparation of an appellate brief on issue of whether being a fetus constituted a legal disability for purposes of tolling the statute of repose (Brucker v. Mercola, 1-05-0881), drafted an IICLE Handbook chapter on Expert Discovery in Medical Malpractice Cases, assisted with drafting successful motions in limine to exclude evidence of plaintiff's intoxication in a multi-million dollar automotive products liability trial, and assisted in preparation for complex products liability, personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice trials.

Brigham and Women's Hospital

As a liaison between the Thoracic Surgery and Anatomic Pathology Departments at Brigham and Women's Hospital, I advised and assisted in the organization of a tissue and blood repository for Partners Healthcare, which served as a multi-institutional core facility for specimen procurement and distribution of a wide variety of malignant, benign, and neoplastic tissues, blood, cells, and nucleic acids.  In this role I facilitated biospecimen procurement for multiple IRB-approved protocols at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana Farber Cancer Institute, including multiple NCI-sponsored SPORE grants (Breast, GI, Prostate), ensured maintenance of patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations, and trained and oriented new pathology residents, fellows, and medical students in the gross description, dissection, and sampling of surgical specimens.

Duke University Health System

As a tissue  banking assistant for Duke University Medical Center's collaboration with the ARDAIS Corporation, I reviewed and analyzed medical records of consented research participants to abstract and deidentify medical histories and pathology reports, and linked deidentified data to tissue samples in an external database.

As an AHA Summer Research Fellow, I assisted research and clinical staff in CHC's Department of Emergency Medicine with ongoing cardiology research protocols, including identification of novel organ preservation factors (subsequently patented under US Patent 5693462), reversal of Verapamil intoxication (reported at Crit Care Med. 115 Jul; 23(7):1251-63), and antioxidant effects of pyruvate in isolated rat hearts (reported at J Mol Cell Cardiol. 1995 Sep; 27(9):2059-67).
