While I've been helping lawyers maximize profits in their law practice, I've been fortunate to also connect with other accountants to share the "how to's" of building a virtual accounting firm.

City of Evans

Responsible for the oversight of the Administrative Services Department of the City of Evans. Divisions within the Department include: Finance, Customer Service, Communications, City Clerk, Recreation, Emergency Management and Information Technology. Followed policy direction from the City Manager and City Council in order to provide a high level of service to residents, other City Departments, and the City of Evans Fire Protection District.  Focused on leadership with the foundation of increasing and strengthening relationships between Administrative Services and both internal and external customers.

Key Achievements: 

*Tripled cash reserves from $10m to over $30m.
*Project Manager for the design and construction of a $40m Wastewater Treatment Plant.
*Responsible for management of the financial aspects of the 2013 Flood Recovery, involving over $12m in public infrastructure damage. 
*Led the creation of a five year Information Technology Strategic Plan.
*Managed the establishment of the Information Technology Department.

Deputy City Manager & Treasurer

Working independently, following policy direction from the City Manager and City Council, develop and manage the financial system for the City that provides accurate, transparent and useful information.  Responsibilities include investments, financial planning, budget preparation and management, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and annual financial statements.  Actively contribute to the City Managers leadership team, work with the Mayor and City Council, and frequently work with citizens on financial and city wide issues.  

Key Achievements:

Represented the City of Evans in a Leadership role on the Fire District Task Force, resulting in a ballot initiative to form the district in the November 2011 election. 
Proposed, managed, and implemented conversion to self collection of sales tax, increasing revenue collections, efficiency, and reporting capabilities.
Participated in a leadership role in a significant reorganization and reduction in force necessary to realign a historical structural deficit within the organization.
Managed a Financial Management software conversion, dramatically increasing efficiency.
Implemented a comprehensive Financial Management System including City Council supported Financial Policies, a citizen focused budget process and document, and accurate and concise financial reporting.  The Financial Management System has resulted in a positive change in culture surrounding the budgeting process and the City. 
Reengineered the purchasing system to effectively manage budgets, utilize available technology, and increase the City's accountability and transparency to Citizens. 
Developed, managed, and implemented Request for Proposals (RFP's) for services to improve systems and reduce staff expenses including banking, utility bill printing, and other services.

Finance Director & Treasurer

Swift & Company

Serve as Corporate Accountant on the financial reporting team for the third largest meat processor in the world with over $10 billion in revenues.

Responsible for preparing specific assigned sections and reviewing quarterly and annual SEC filings; preparing monthly financial reporting for the Board of Directors; administering all corporate general ledger functions; performing monthly and yearly accounting close processes; performing monthly variance analysis; reviewing bank reconciliations for multiple plant location accounts as well as corporate accounts; assisting with quarter-end review and year-end audit functions; and developing financial reports using PeopleSoft nVision.

Key Achievements:

Developed system to analyze the recognition and measurement of an impairment loss on long-lived assets under SFAS No. 144 Accounting for the Impairment or Disposal of Long-Lived Assets, using MS Excel.
Gathered, analyzed and presented data on the corporate sales incentive plan which resulted in a significant revision of the plan.
Effectively create and implement new corporate accounting policies.

Corporate Accountant II

Montana Department of Justice

Served as Administrative Officer for Gambling Control Division with $52.7 million in revenues and six field offices.

Responsible for administering all fiscal policies and procedures; preparing accurate and timely financial reports; coordinating project and program development processes; analyzing and projecting program needs, revenues, and expenditures; developing and recommending program budgets and allocations; and identifying, developing, proposing, and monitoring rules and legislation.

Key Achievements:

Implemented MS Excel pivot tables in order to influence outcome of management decisions.
Managed development and production of Division Biennial Report to the Legislature.

Administrative Officer

Mrachek, Popp & Associates

Served as Staff Accountant for local public accounting firm.

Responsible for financial reporting following GAAP and other comprehensive basis of accounting; tax planning and reporting for individual and business; and auditing of non-profit entities and hospitals. Industry experience: retail, construction, services, agriculture, non-profit, hospitals, and renting and leasing services.
