I was lying by the pool in Portugal with my cofounder when we agreed to start Didgeheads.

In 2022 I received a really exciting offer. 

To join one of the UK’s fastest growing media agencies and help them deliver a migration of 70+ sites for one of the UK’s best known hospitality brands.

As the project lead, I had to:

- build a migration project flow to execute without hiccups
- recommend naming conventions across 70 chains that help drive rankings
- manage the project timelines to ensure it was delivered on time and in-budget
- audit every single site for ‘quick wins’, issues, best practise recommendations & performance enhancements

We managed to execute the migration and see HUGE organic traffic wins, plus deliver the 70+ sites with full SEO optimisation on time.

February 2020, and we hear the first whispers of a virus called “Covid-19”.

I was in the middle of figuring out what to do next with my life - I’d not long walked away from my first business and decided I needed a new challenge. 

That’s when the idea hit me - people are too busy to go to the gym these days, and with the virus about to force us into lockdown, I decided to launch an online fitness business. 

I used my SEO skills to fill my calendar of clients within 2 months. 

With a budget of £400, I got featured in tonnes of high authority websites and newspapers by constructing a PR outreach message and utilising cheap tools to get traction. These included:

I set up a GMB profile and built a 5* profile.

I was getting DAILY leads at this point through organic search + referral traffic.

I built customer profiles so specific, that I constantly had messages on social media saying “I feel like you’re speaking directly to me”.

These profiles informed my content output across all my channels, and enabled me to earn more money than I ever had by working for others!

I’ve always had a passion for sports and fitness, so this was a no brainer. 

When I started, there was no in-house SEO team or strategy.

I led on building the brand and took charge of organic growth.

I optimised our GMB profile and we ranked number 1 for key local terms such as “hackney wick gyms” “gyms in hackney”.

This visibility us build a truly thriving member base. Building from the ground up was a challenge - but I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved.

This role truly ignited my love for SEO.

It was the first time that I really led on client accounts and worked on SEO strategy every single day. 

I worked with international brands such as First Utility (now owned by Shell), Moneyfarm and also businesses that were in the early growth stages. 

I led on content strategy predominantly but also cut my teeth with technical SEO and link building. 

I go it my first big piece of coverage in the Mail Online for a client single-handedly.

This role helped me build connections that truly trusted me - it helped build the rest of my SEO career as years later, clients I worked with would seek me out to help them in their new roles.
