Team member that received an award from the Society of Plastics Engineers for best exterior automotive component. Used valve gating expertise to reduce wall stock and maintain strength of material. Cycle time was reduced from 80 to 52 seconds and wall thickness from 3.2 – 3.5 to 2.2 - 2.5 millimeters. This was for the launch of the Ford Windstar fascia at Polycon Industries. Worked on a 13 month contract at Blackhawk / Johnson Controls to launch door panels for the Pontiac Grand Prix. This program was taken over from another parts supplier. Cycle time was 85 seconds with a 35% scrap rate not including regrind. Working with the team, we reduced the cycle time to 52 seconds and the scrap rate to .7%. The cost saving on this one program was $450,000 per annum. On a four month project, a mould was repaired, water lines cleaned and rerouted, gating improved and unnecessary trimming removed from the process. GM signed off for an acceptable part and all of this was accomplished without losing one day of production.
