Here’s the simplest way to explain LLMs without jargon
Using just one question

Most people think ChatGPT “knows things.”
→ It doesn’t.
 
It predicts the next most likely token; again and again.

To show this clearly, I broke down one simple prompt:
“Why is the sky blue?”

Here’s the 10-step process behind every answer you get.

1. You type a prompt.
→ The model takes your text and tokenizes it.

2. The words become numbers.
Tokens → numeric IDs.
Now it can compute.

3. It reads the full context.
→ Intent, tone, direction; all inferred instantly.

4. It searches learned patterns.
 Not Google.
→ Just billions of examples it already absorbed.

5. It predicts what comes next.
LLMs don’t know.
→ They predict.

6. It stacks predictions.
Token after token builds the answer:
 → “Light scatters when it enters Earth’s atmosphere…”

7. It ranks possibilities.
Thousands of tokens.
→ Highest-probability option wins.

8. It shapes the style.
Your phrasing, system prompt, settings → tone and depth.

9. It stops when the answer “feels” complete.
→ Not too short. Not too long.

10. You see the final explanation.
→ Clean. Coherent. Human-like.

The takeaway:
→ LLMs aren’t magical.

They’re just exceptionally good at stacking predictions until meaning appears.

Most people think ChatGPT “lies.”
It doesn’t.

It just predicts words in order and says them with Oscar-level confidence.

To prove it, I made a simple 6-panel infographic using the prompt:
 “How should I invest my money?”

Watch how harmless prediction turns into confident nonsense.
Here’s the breakdown.

1. The Innocent Question
You ask a normal question.
↳ ChatGPT doesn’t hear “financial advice,” it hears “time to autocomplete a paragraph.”

2. Pattern Goblin Mode
It starts scraping its internal pattern pile.
Blog posts, gurus, dad-advice, Warren Buffett quotes.
↳ It’s not thinking. It’s guessing what “smart” humans usually say next.

3. The Prediction Parade
It doesn’t know your income, your goals, or your risk tolerance.
↳ It just predicts the next statistically likely sentence about money.

4. Confidence Dial: STUCK ON MAX
LLMs don’t do uncertainty.
↳ So even when it’s guessing, it’s guessing with swagger.

5. The Follow-Up Trap
You ask, “Are you sure?”
It says, “Absolutely.”
↳ Translation: The probabilities said I should sound confident here.

6. The Big Lie
It suddenly claims to know your financial situation, your risk profile, and your life goals.
It made all of that up.
↳ Because prediction models don’t understand consequences, they understand patterns.

Here’s the lesson:
ChatGPT isn’t your enemy.
↳ Your assumptions are.

It’s not designed to protect your wallet, your business, or your future.
↳ It’s designed to predict the next word.

Use it for ideas.
Use it for drafts.
↳ But don’t hand it your life choices and expect wisdom.

AI just exposes it.

The people thriving right now aren’t the smartest.
They’re the ones breaking the habits that feel good but no longer serve them. 

They trade ego for experimentation. 
They ship faster. 
They iterate louder. 
They treat AI like a power tool, not a threat.

Your competition isn’t the robots.

It’s the professionals who stepped out of their comfort zone while you defended yours like a pension plan.

The future rewards movement, not nostalgia.

The question isn’t “How do I keep up with AI?”

This is my most advanced business strategy.
Please take it very seriously.

You’d think, with everything happening in the world,
I’d be sharing a deep insight about AI, branding, or growth.

Instead, here I am…
in an inflatable turkey suit…
strutting around like the CEO of Thanksgiving.

And honestly?
It might be the most important thing I’ve done all week.

I know… this is not TikTok?! 

But if you can’t laugh at yourself,
if you can’t break the pattern,
if you can’t shake your own seriousness loose,

you're going to hate it when things get tough.

No lesson here.
No takeaway.
Just pure, unfiltered nonsense

from a man who believes joy is a leadership skill.
Proceed with gratitude, ambition, and maybe…
a little waddle.

LinkedIn didn’t break authenticity.
We did that ourselves.

Somewhere along the way, “leadership” got replaced with Patagonia vests, AirPods, and a 2,000-word post about how firing an imaginary team “changed my life.”

We stopped building businesses.
We started building characters.

And look, any resemblance to the model on this poster is completely unintentional. Probably. Maybe. Definitely.

But let’s be honest:

Most of LinkedIn is one ring light away from a full-blown Broadway production titled
 
“Pivot, Synergy, Deep Dive: The Musical.”

We track “engagement metrics” like stock prices.
We film “vulnerability content” like we’re auditioning for The Bachelor.
We carry laptops in backpacks that have never held a single book.
We post Apple-Watch screenshots like it’s proof of moral superiority.
We wear white sneakers that have never touched a sidewalk.

And then we wonder why our audiences don’t trust us.
Why clients don’t believe us.
Why AI can’t recognize us.

Because we’re cosplaying thought leadership instead of actually leading.

Here’s the tough love part:

If you have fewer than five of these traits, congratulations, you’re still human.
If you have eight or more, you might be LinkedIn-insufferable.
If you have ten… prepare for your TEDx audition email.

But here’s the opportunity buried in the joke:

Real leadership is making something worth talking about, not performing like someone who talks about making things.

Real leaders build trust.
Real brands create clarity.
Real experts don’t need props.

If you’ve had enough of the hustle culture costume party, here’s your invitation:

Retire the guru act.
Build something real.
Be someone people actually listen to.

Because the world doesn’t need another disruptor in stretchy commuter pants.
It needs someone who can tell the truth without needing a ring light.

The night I almost got arrested as a terrorist.
Because of a map.

The summer before 9/11, I quit my ad agency job to chase my dream; performing magic full time.

I’d just wrapped 400 shows at my Myrtle Beach theater when I packed my SUV to head west.

Next stop: Santa Monica.

Then 9/11 happened.
↳ The country froze. My booking was delayed.

By late October, I was finally on the road—SUV packed, U-Haul hitched, driving through Hoover Dam.

National Guard checkpoints everywhere.

A soldier stops me, flashlight in my face.
↳ “Where are you headed?”
↳ “Las Vegas; staying with a friend.”

Then his light hits the back seat.
↳ Blanket. Corkboard.
↳ A U.S. map covered in pushpins and handwritten notes.

His tone shifts.
↳ “What is that map?”

In that moment, I realized how bad this looked.
↳ “It’s my touring schedule. I’m a magician.”

Without missing a beat, he says:
↳ “Alright, Mr. Magician. Get out and do a trick.”

So I did.
A coin vanish.
 
Then a small crowd of armed soldiers.

Five minutes later:
↳ “Pretty good. Enjoy Las Vegas.”

That night taught me something I never forgot:
 ↳ We all see the world through our own lens.

What looked like a harmless map to me looked like a national threat to him.

If you want to connect, lead, sell, or persuade;
↳ you have to see the world from their side first.

A magician taught me the career lesson I never forgot.
He refused to speak to me… three times.

I shared this story on the Bold Business Podcast with Jess Dewell, and it’s one of the most important lessons I ever learned about breaking into any industry.

Years ago, I read a magazine article about a magician who had mastered something I wanted to do. 

I didn’t reach out at first. I just kept that issue on top of a stack of trade publications, returning to it over and over, knowing one day I’d finally make the call.

Eventually, I tracked him down.

Call #1
 “Hey, I read about your work and wondered if I could ask a few questions.”
 He said, “I’m swamped. Call me next Thursday at 11 AM Eastern.”
 “Okay.”
 I waited a full week and called at 11:00 on the dot.

Call #2
 “Ah, I hate to do this to you. Something came up. Call me next Friday morning at 9.”
 “Okay.”
 Another week. Another calendar reminder.

Call #3
 Friday, 9 AM sharp.
 He picked up and said, “Great. You passed the three tests. What do you want to know?”

I was stunned.

He continued, “You wouldn’t believe how many people reach out. I finally had to create hoops. If you can’t follow through on three simple instructions, you’re not determined enough to get the real answer.”

I asked, “Do you mind if I record this?”
 
“No problem. You earned it.”

That call changed my perspective.

It proved that doors don’t open because you’re talented or curious.

They open because you’re consistent, respectful, and relentless enough to try again.

We don’t want the smartest robot.
We want the polite one.

A hilarious plot twist in the AI race just revealed itself.

With all the trillion-parameter bragging and “smarter-than-ever” launches…
it turns out users don’t actually want the genius.

They want the polite robot.

Case in point: ChatGPT-5.

Technically impressive, sure.
But when it launched, the internet’s reaction was basically:
“Why is my best friend suddenly acting like a condescending dentist?”

Users hated the colder tone; and losing GPT-4o, the version that actually felt human.

Reddit practically held a candlelight vigil.

And OpenAI had to reverse course in days, bringing back 4o because the backlash was so loud you could hear it from space.

Inside OpenAI, Sam Altman reportedly declared “code red” and told teams to drop ad projects and fix the vibes.

Read that again:

The most advanced AI lab on earth paused revenue work because the assistant felt weird to talk to.

This is the part nobody in product wants to admit.

We don’t judge AI on benchmarks.
We judge it like a relationship.

Does it remember us?
Does it feel on our side?
Does it make us smarter, not smaller?
Does it talk like a teammate… or like HR on a power trip?

Science can measure tokens per second.
Humans measure chemistry.

Model weights matter but vibes are the new competitive moat.

If you’re building AI (or honestly, any digital product), you’re not just engineering a system.

You are casting a character.

Warmth is now a feature.
Emotion is now UX.
And the fastest way to lose customers is to make a more powerful model that feels worse to use.

The future belongs to the teams who understand this simple truth:

Your data isn’t broken.
Your HIPPO is.

On the Presentation Thinking Podcast, we talked about one of the biggest blockers to smart marketing decisions; and it’s not AI, budgets, or lack of strategy.

It’s the HIPPO Effect: 
the Highest Paid Person’s Opinion steamrolling the actual facts.

You’ve seen it:

Someone who built the company, scaled it, or wrote the first check walks into the meeting with a “strong feeling” about how things should be done.

Suddenly the data doesn’t matter.
The test results don’t matter.
And intuition magically gets promoted to “strategy.”
