I always thought my dream was to work in the corporate world, climbing the ladder within this world. However, my love for martial arts and becoming a taekwondo student changed my life’s trajectory. Acquiring my Black Belt (2nd Degree, World Taekwondo, WTF), led me to become a martial arts teacher. It is at this time I slowly became a mentor to my teenage students. This experience has also exposed and allowed me to interact with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is where my passion was developed to work with individuals with ASD. As a result, I decided to fulfill another dream, which was to go back to school to earn my undergraduate degree, to help me pursue this passion. My goal is to serve others in any capacity available and possible. My education journey is continuing in the fall of 2022 when I am pursuing my Master in Counseling Psychology at Yorkville University. This program will provide me with the next level of professionalism to build on my experience to develop and implement therapies to help individuals to achieve success in navigating their daily lives. I believe that the quintessential purpose of therapies is to allow individuals to live their fullest lives. My goal upon completion of my Masters of Arts in Counseling Psychology is to work in an elementary or high school environment, specifically for students with ASD, their parents, and caregivers Through my volunteering/practicum, I work with individuals with ASD from low functioning to high functioning, and individuals with developmental delays and learning disabilities. My volunteering/practicum allowed me to interact with individuals with ASD in workshops that provide dance, science, arts and crafts, and boxing. We all have something to offer in this world and we are all different but normal. All of us in this world have the same need and that is to be accepted for who we are and not what society thinks we are. I am dedicated to serving children with exceptional needs while focusing on their growth and being motivated by new challenges.
