Project Manager

Promoted to Construction Manager just 1 year into my HNC Apprenticeship, I was responsible for delivering the Construction Aspect of all high value projects south of Birmingham. Tasked with overseeing construction projects from tender to completion, I managed the initial estimates and project plans, through to overseeing the onsite installation of the full composite package.

Diligent attention to detail and stakeholder management was required. On site meetings with the Client to establish scope, and negotiate room for collaboration and betterment on timeframes. Robust management of contractors and supply chain to ensure timely delivery, and not impede the construction programme. Team Leadership of UK site teams, carefully adapting communication to balance stresses with assertive goals and expectations for the week.

Large emphasis on safety and risk management, produced all RAMS for on-site teams, and responsible for analysing and communicating any foreseeable obstacles on site (i.e. lifting exclusion zones, enhanced H&S risk activities etc.)
Majority of projects were delivered on budget, in line with the agreed project timescales. Reporting weekly site progress to the UK Management Team, and meticulously tracking progress and costs with the Quantity Surveyors.

Construction Manager

I rotated through the following departments to build a strong professional foundation, and a holistic understanding of how the organisation worked:

• Estimating – Tendering for projects based on outline documents. Sales: Cold & hot leads, building rapport with Contractor Commercial Teams to win work and become the preferred sub-contractor. Tracking communications diligently in the CRM, escalating any strong leads to the Senior Estimator.

• Quantity Surveying – Managing the costs and progress of the site teams on 15+ jobs across the UK. Using CAD software to keep a record of progress, and use this to calculate on site bonuses. Careful client relationship management, negotiating variation orders and agreeing the costs of these.

• Construction Management – Shadowing the Contract & Construction Manager. The intent here was to get on site exposure to Construction Projects. Learning quickly about the product, common challenges, and how to communicate effectively at a number of levels (i.e. Site to Client Director level)

Contract Support

Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

A demanding course where our practical application of leadership was tested in complex and intimidating situations – Both in camp, and on exercise. 

Proven leadership strategies, delivered by an experienced Directing Staff. Coaching on how to communicate clearly, and emphasise the important tasks without any ‘fluff.’ Daily physical training and inspections to build teamwork, determination, and selfless commitment to each other.

A results driven professional, with half a decade of combined Construction and Project Management experience. 

Adept at stakeholder management, I have proven experience leading cross functional, international teams to deliver successful projects. 

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, leveraged to build a strong rapport with colleagues and clients alike. Adaptable skill set with a varied background that has been tailored to great success, most recently within the ROV & defence industry.
