vast Great Plains via collaboration with farmers, ranchers and stakeholders to mimic nature. We
honor all people and species as we regenerate from the soil up using regenerative agriculture
principles. The organization serves as a liaison between small and large stakeholders and the
farming community to allocate resources for regional food-system development while increasing
new market opportunities for local producers. GPR focuses on seven desired outcomes: increase
biodiversity, expand holistic livestock management, replenish watersheds, support regenerative
policies, boost producer profitability, amplify regional food systems and revitalize local economies.

Forests Forever

Was one of 17 people who formed Forests Forever to protect California's coastal redwood and doug fir forests. Our first effort was to place California Proposition 130 on the November 1990 ballot. We raised $6M and Big Timber spent $50M and fell short with 47.3% of the votes. We all learned how hard it is to change unjust laws even when their is clear benefit to millions of Californians.

Founder of Nutiva & Executive Producer of Kiss the Ground 

John is a hemp innovator, serial entrepreneur, investor, philanthropist, writer, and champion of regenerative agriculture. 

As the founder of the organic superfoods brand Nutiva, he has sourced and formulated $1B in retail sales of organic superfoods in the past 20 years.  John is also an executive producer of the Netflix blockbuster regenerative agriculture film Kiss the Ground, which is narrated by Woody Harrelson. Today, he is an investor, supporter, and advisor to various companies and organizations in the “better for you and planet” sector.

Over his career, John has founded six non-profit organizations, including Great Plains Regeneration and Agroforestry Regeneration Communities (ARC). His passionate hemp advocacy brought him to sue the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency. This long legal battle culminated in a historic 2004 federal court victory to keep hemp foods legal. He is a pioneer of the modern home-composting movement and has authored four books on hemp and composting.
