John is currently the CIO of Commercial Payments at Optum, where he is responsible for $BN+ PaaS and SaaS products for Optum Financial. He is also a Master Instructor of Taekwondo, certified by Kukkiwon, the world's leading authority on Taekwondo.

As the CIO of Commercial Payments, John has successfully launched Optum Pay in the Cloud, delivered Same Day ACH, and integrated products and engineering teams from two different acquisitions into Optum. During his tenure, John has transformed the organization toward a product-led model and implemented the Four Disciplines of Execution (4DX) to eliminate waste and decrease lead and cycle times. Whether it be the modernization of legacy billing, subscription, and payment systems or how Optum achieves the next level of DevSecOps and Quality Engineering, John has elevated the game and, with it, first-rate products and services that make healthcare better for everyone.

We are at a moment in time where divisiveness, anger, and hatred are permeating throughout the very fabric of society. We live in a world where messaging is instant, content may or may not be generated by a human being, and algorithms amplify the negative — all leading to the horrific violence that is unfolding before us.

We have got to turn the page on this dark period in our history. At the end of the day, we get what we give. To that end, consider holding the door for someone… smiling at someone… changing a tire for someone… or paying for someone’s groceries. Make a difference one small act at a time. That smile might save someone’s life… that door you hold might cause them pay it forward… that tire you change might make their day… and those groceries you paid for might change the trajectory of someone’s life. If we put good things into the world, we will get good things back. Violence doesn’t thrive when compassion, kindness, and empathy are present.

Our future doesn’t have to be bleak and hopeless. It can be bright and full of hope for an epic tomorrow. It is up to you and me. I choose to make a difference. I ask you to do the same.
