Joining up with the Chairman of Datalocator after a sale to Promethean Investments we decided to start a business helping people with large consumer debt.  Starting the business on my own with a unique business plan.  Recruiting every member of the team from day one and leading the company ultimately to a successful flotation on AIM.  I was instrumental in every part of the float from the beauty parades at the start to creation of the floatation documentation and ultimately the fundraising.  Since flotation the company has gone from strength to strength and we now employ 175 staff.  The company deals with people who have large un secured debt and helps them reduce their debt levels without borrowing more money.  The company is very Sales orientated and everyone shares in the success when targets are met.  Sitting as a board member on a PLC has also meant I have learnt a great deal about the workings of the city and institutional investors.

I joined Datalocator when there were only two employees, we increased this to over700 and when
the company was sold it had 300 employees.  I started as the Business Development   Manager for the company and after one year we decided that we needed to open our own call centre.  We decided to start this in Glasgow and I was responsible for every part of this operation.  This meant employing 200 individuals setting up the IT and infrastructure.  I was also responsible for all of the new client acquisition.  We worked with over 20 different blue chip clients from Proctor and Gamble to large financial institutions such as MBNA and Capital One.  We decided to outsource part of the operation to India but always maintained a presence in Glasgow. I successfully sold the call centre operation before Datalocator was sold to Promethean Invesments for over £20m.
