Our teams at Lifeblood work 24/7 to ensure life-saving blood products are available when and where they are needed by patients, including those impacted today. We can only do this because of the many generous blood donors right across Australia. In this time of sadness and shock for many we also rightly thank you.

The Imperative for Peace: A Global Call for Compassionate Leadership

A mentor is someone who shares their knowledge, skills and/or experience, to help another to develop and grow. A coach is someone who provides guidance to a client on their goals and helps them reach their full potential.

A Kellogg study, which analyzes the careers of more than 37,000 scientist mentors and protégés, suggests that mentors who pass on tacit knowledge gained through their work experience rather than codified skills produce mentees who are significantly more likely to become superstars of their fields.

Difference Between Coaching and Mentoring  

The words coaching and mentoring are often used interchangeably. While both strategies support individual career development, they are not the same. If you’re running a career development program at your organization, it’s important to understand the differences and the role each practice plays in an individual’s development experience. 

A coach is a professionally trained individual who directs and/or instructs an individual (coachee) on the skills/knowledge areas that enable the coachee to become more proficient when performing required responsibilities and that will result in a specific career direction.  

A mentor is an individual with specific knowledge or experience in a given area of expertise, who is willing and able to share that knowledge or experience with another.  
Keep in mind, that just because someone is an expert, does not mean they will make a good mentor. A mentor's willingness to share their knowledge and demonstrate the skills to be an effective mentor are key. Additionally, it is necessary to support mentors with training so they clearly understand their role and the goals of the mentoring program.

In a new Ipsos poll commissioned by WWF and the Plastic Free July Foundation on what should be included in global treaty to stop plastic pollution shows strong and unequivocal public support for banning dangerous and unnecessary plastic products around the world. 

More than eight in ten (85%) of people polled worldwide believe that a global treaty to stop plastic pollution should ban unnecessary and harmful single-use plastics and we also found high support (87%) for reducing global plastic production. Importantly, people are aware that bans alone are not enough to end the plastic pollution crisis with measures such as mandating manufacturers invest in and provide reuse and refill systems polling 87% support.
