My goal is to leave people, places, and things better than I found them — to solve problems (or prevent them), improve processes, simplify things, and to help and encourage others. I've worked in small businesses and large, matrixed organizations with numerous affiliates in multiple states. I've battled silos and unnecessary complexity. I bring a collaborative approach, prevent and resolve problems, manage risk, engage people, ask questions, connect dots, and read/write/analyze/advise about lots of things. Legal work runs the gamut. I’m a teacher turned litigator turned generalist. Contracts, commercial transactions, conflict, investigations, governance, M&A, employment, tax, real estate transactions, healthcare compliance, etc. - I've led a company through a 9-figure exit, - I handled M&A and real estate deals, - I led a response to a data breach involving tens of thousands of patients, and - I have advised Boards and executive teams on internal and external risks of all types, including dicey situations like exiting executives, fraud allegations, and board members facing multiple criminal charges. Compliance work includes HIPAA, CCPA, and other privacy and security standards. Provide guidance and education on compliance-related matters, and lead compliance initiatives and investigations. Leadership and Ops experience include running 20+ entities, supporting a team of ~20, dealing with auditors and the government, and teaching middle schoolers. - Started intercompany team, which increased staff engagement and lowered external costs. - Built partnership with local school to increase opportunities for children in low income housing. - Internalized legal and facilities work, saving >$500K. - Managed >$70MM in real estate: acquisitions, sales, leases, construction, financing, reserves, environmental issues, and operating and capital budgets.
