I am a Small Business aficionado! I grew up in an entrepreneurial family. My Dad owned two businesses and that's what sparked my interest in entrepreneurship from a very early age and one day becoming like my Dad, a successful business owner. I started my first small business, a newspaper run, while I was still at school. It taught me to be accountable for my actions. On leaving school, I knew that I wanted to own and run my own business. I felt like I didn't have the experience or skills necessary to do that, so I decided to work for my Dad to learn more from him and literarily over the next 8 years I worked side by side with him and helped my Dad grow his business to a $3 mil turnover. I wanted a company that I could genuinely call my own, so I invested in a Sign-A-Rama franchise. I ran it in conjunction with the family business (my father had now retired) for some years before successfully exiting the franchise. Running both businesses taught me the value of delegation. You just can't do it all. There was also a Consulting business along the way so, after 35 years I needed a break and exited the family business sold the house and cars and set off around Australia. Looking back, I could see all the exits I had that were successful and those that I didn’t extract as much value as I should've. I realised that there were certain things I was doing in the businesses that I did well compared to those that I didn’t and that’s when I created Exitology®. I started the mission of helping other business owners be happier and exit more successfully.
