If I ever get fired from Cornerstone Advisors, I know exactly what I want my next job to be: Chief Letter to the Shareholder Writer for Jamie Dimon.

There is truly no document in the banking/financial services space I look forward to reading each year more than Dimon's letter to shareholders. 

My first take on this year's letter was surprise that there wasn't more mention of technology, which Dimon typically comments on in some detail. 

The new letter really only makes two references to tech--a comment on #AI and a comment on #cloudcomputing (which Dimon has mentioned in previous letters). 

The AI references are noteworthy. Here are two key quotes:

1️⃣ "AI comes with many risks, which need to be rigorously managed." In and of itself, this is hardly newsworthy, as everybody and their mother comments on the "risks" of AI. 

But Dimon's comments about the "risks" were focused on the downside of AI being used maliciously or illegally against Chase. The reference to risk wasn't focused on the risks of Chase using AI, or to any lending bias or job loss. 

This is important because there are many bank and credit union executive teams who are using "the risks of AI" as an excuse for doing nothing with AI and taking a wait-and-see approach.

2️⃣ "Recognizing the importance of AI to our business, we created a new position called Chief Data & Analytics Officer."

Note that Dimon DIDN'T say "we created a new position called the Chief AI Officer."

The key to successfully deploying and managing the various technologies that come under the AI banner isn't about the technology itself--it's about what goes into it (data) and how that data is used (analytics).

Beyond the technology, there are so many great comments, and, really, potshots at things Dimon likes to opine about like private credit, the "hijackings" of shareholder meetings, and today's regulatory environment.
