Do you want LinkedIn training on your data?

Here’s something you’ll want to know — in a major shift, LinkedIn will begin using member data in specified regions by default to train content‑generating AI models, unless you proactively opt out.


What’s changing:

	•	As of November 3, 2025, LinkedIn says it will use data such as member profiles, posts, resumes and public activity in regions including the UK, EU/EEA, Switzerland, Canada and Hong Kong to train its generative AI models.  


	•	The setting “Data for Generative AI Improvement” is set to “on” by default for these affected users — meaning unless you turn it off in your account settings, your eligible data will be used.  


	•	Importantly: private messages are excluded from this training data.  


	•	If you opt out, it stops future use of your data for content‑generating AI models. But any data already processed up to that point is not necessarily removed.  

Why this matters:

	•	For your own personal brand, professional presence and data footprint: you now have a decision to make about whether your profile/posts help feed LinkedIn’s AI engine or whether you restrict that.


	•	The default “on” setting means inertia favors use of your data unless you act.

	•	Given your focus on AI‑native, high‑agency professional positioning, this gives you more control — or more of a reason to audit and decide.



What you can actually do right now:
	1.	Log into LinkedIn → click your profile → Settings & Privacy.

	2.	Go to Data privacy → Data for Generative AI Improvement.

	3.	Toggle off “Use my data for training content creation AI models.”  


	4.	For broader objection (e.g., other machine‑learning uses beyond content generation), you can fill out the “Data Processing Objection” form.

Cursor has become popular because it feels like a full coding partner instead of a simple autocomplete tool. 

Many engineers say it speeds up their work in a real way and large tech companies have been adopting it across teams. 

That rise in usage is a big reason investors were willing to place such a large bet.

This round also shows where the market is heading.

on Tuesday, 80 AI leaders joined us in our NYC office for a half day of peer learning, roadmap deep dives, and conversations on how they're operationalizing AI inside their organizations.

a few reflections stood out:

1️⃣ The most under-hyped aspect of ChatGPT:
it allows non-technologists to build. With GPTs, the people closest to their problems can now design their own solutions, with no coding required. It’s unlocking a new wave of practical, real innovation without being bottlenecked by the backlog.

2️⃣ Executive sponsorship sets the tone
a financial services leader said it best - AI adoption succeeds when executives signal that this is a business priority. The investment isn’t just in tools, but in culture change, accountability, and raising the standard for what great work looks like.

3️⃣ Where should AI “live”?
companies are starting to build a central AI function under their CEO so they can continue to look at AI as an innovation and strategic transformation initiative, while working closely with leaders across IT, security, legal and commercial roles

Google’s shares fell nearly 5 percent after OpenAI launched its first AI-powered web browser, ChatGPT Atlas, on Tuesday. The move puts OpenAI in direct competition with Google, whose Chrome browser has around 3 billion users worldwide and already includes some AI features powered by Gemini.

#1 Get to know your users really well

“The best founders do customer support themselves. They go visit their users—in the case of Airbnb they go live with them. You want to get to know your users really really well.”

#2 Have a short cycle time & understand compound growth

“The cycle here is basically: talk to customer to understand pain point → build product to address that → get that in front of user → see what they do → repeat cycle. This cycle is how you iterate and improve. The law of compound growth being what it is: if you can get 2% better every iteration cycle, your iteration cycle is every four hours rather than every four weeks, and you compound that over the course of a few years, you’ll be in a very very different place. Make it one of your top goals to build one of the fastest iterating companies the world has ever seen.”

#3 Make a long-term commitment

“Most companies have a 2-3 year time horizon. But companies are almost always a 10 year project if they work. If you think about it that way from the very beginning, you will make very different and much better decisions. I think this is the only arbitrage opportunity left in the market. Almost no one makes a fairly long-term commitment to a new project. But if you do that, you will think in a different way, you will hire different people, and it will work very well.”

#4 Stay lean until everything is working really well

“In the early days, when you’re experimenting and zig zagging, you’re like a fast little speed boat and want to be able to turn the whole company on a dime. You can’t do that if you’re a big company—cash burn aside, which is another problem. The flexibility of the company basically decreases with the square of the number of employees, so you want to stay really small until you’re sure things are working. Once things are working, then you can get really big.”

#5 Resist the urge to hire; especially resist the urge to hire mediocre people

“Vinod Khosla has a saying that I love: ‘the team you build is the company you build.’ This is really true and I never appreciated how true this was for a long time. If you build a team of great people and you have a product that people love, you’ll have a 90%+ chance of success. Those are both really hard to do, and they’re independent variables. But don’t ignore the team component. The best CEOs I know spend huge amounts of time recruiting and retaining good talent.”

#6 Relentless execution

“You have to keep going, and do things perfectly, and get all of the details right. You have to care too much about every experience that a customer has with their company.”

Seattle AI Week: Building Our AI Identity
 
WTIA’s opening reception for Seattle AI Week featured a series of thought-provoking discussions on AI Policy & Economic Development in Seattle and Washington State.
 
I appreciated the candid conversations about Seattle’s strengths and weaknesses as a global AI hub, especially in comparison with the Bay Area. The discussion surfaced several opportunities for improvement:
 👉 Expand public-private partnerships to launch real-world AI pilot projects
 👉 Develop high-density clusters of AI expertise that encourage collaboration
 👉 Strengthen AI upskilling programs at community colleges and technical schools
 👉 Encourage a stronger “hustle” mentality (Seattle can be too relaxed sometimes)
 👉 Brag more about our startups and our region’s successes (we’re too humble!)

From a marketing perspective, I believe it’s time for Seattle to define and promote its own AI identity. Rather than comparing ourselves to the Bay Area’s strengths, we could focus on differentiating our ecosystem in ways that leverage our advantages.

I’m often amazed by how many people outside our region don’t realize that Seattle is home to some of the world’s largest AI investors and innovators, as well as world-class institutions producing top-tier talent and conducting foundational AI research. We also have a remarkably collaborative and supportive startup culture that’s worth celebrating.

ChatGPT Ads are coming in 2026, and they’ll look nothing like Google Ads

In a recent interview, Sam Altman confirmed that ChatGPT will start testing ads. But not like Google.

Google makes money when search fails, when you have to click an ad to get an answer. 

ChatGPT will make money when it gets it right. If it recommends a hotel, tool, or product, and you choose it, OpenAI could take a small commission. No bidding wars. Just relevance and trust

It sounds fair. But it also opens new questions:

- Who decides what’s truly “best”?
- And what happens to brands that are the best, but don’t pay to be shown?

Here’s a closer look at what we do know so far:

- OpenAI is hiring a “Growth Paid Marketing Platform Engineer” to build tools for campaigns, attribution, and ad-management inside ChatGPT. 
- Ads inside ChatGPT are expected as early as 2026. One report estimates that “free-user monetization” could become a $1-billion revenue line in 2026, growing to $25 billion by 2029. 

The planned ad model is different: rather than paid placement above results, it’s about recommendation-based placement. Altman emphasised that if ChatGPT shows a worse option because a brand paid more, trust collapses. 

For brands and marketers, this is a major signal: 2026 may be the year AI isn’t just a tool, it becomes a media channel.

Ranking high in Google might not matter if ChatGPT never cites you.
