Led all marketing, 5-year strategy development, and strategic initiatives execution across sales, marketing, innovation, and product management targeting the dry, wet, and treats categories of the pet food industry.

Market Development Manager, North America

•	Designed new product iPad strategy by conducting a needs assessment, creating new value proposition content, designing the supporting iPad promotion strategy and creating new presentations.  Project included robust training of 8 sales reps, and the first large customer sale.  Strategy resulted in 15 % product revenue increase ($ 300 M) while saving the business 50% of the forecasted relaunch cost ($50 M).

•	Created 2013 marketing plan for two new high-value market segments (schools and sports turf).  Marketing plan includes industry-leading marketing communications and promotion tactics designed to create a 100% increase in brand awareness and $ 5 MM in incremental revenue.

•	Led a 15 person cross-functional team consisting of internal stakeholders and 2 external vendors to implement a significant information technology conversion involving all major customers.  Negotiated out of a $360 M cost increase from the new vendor, saving the business 30% of the total transition cost.  Designed the new IT system with a commercial focus - to support a dramatic improvement in sales and marketing effectiveness by making it possible to market to distinct customer segments, identify new sales leads, and target strategic key accounts responsible for 80% of revenue growth ($ 3 MM).

• Designed a nine-month, $4.7 MM strategic plan for a new product launch.  Recommended programs will make the retail experience more engaging for consumers, excite customers by bringing consumers into retail, and grow the brand by using retail as a way to tap into explosive consumer growth.

• Conducted comprehensive analysis of a $2 MM retail program test with Target, PetSmart, Safeway, and Schnucks using Nielsen, shipment, and customer data.  Recommended strategies will expand the scope of the program in a way that increases incremental sales by $500 K and sharpens investment decisions.

• Developed four Hispanic consumer insights using both primary and secondary research to capture emotional and psychological drivers of consumer behavior for use throughout the Purina portfolio.

• Presented Hispanic insights with key recommendations to the directors of brand marketing and the shopper marketing team to strategically use brands within the portfolio to win with different Latino consumer segments.

• Consulted with V.P. of Sales, V.P. of Marketing, and high-performing sales team members to draw up marketing plans for 10 sales territories. Analyzed sales performance each quarter to determine benchmark metrics and to make any necessary adjustments. Dramatically improved cross-territory communication and helped every sales representative push the planning horizon out by several months.

• Improved the quality and process of direct mail marketing by building on customer insights to increase direct mail response rates from 0.1 to 5 percent.

• Determined the messaging, set the time-frames, managed the cross-functional deliverables, facilitated the review processes, and reported results to the executive team for 8 campaigns targeting the most profitable customer segments across all marketing channels resulting in over 200 qualified leads.

• Changed the search engine marketing (SEM) process by hiring and training a Marketing Coordinator to manage SEM activities resulting in an annual net savings of $100,000.

• Led the creation of a company Facebook page to increase brand equity and leverage the social media platform for free relationship marketing.  Used a mix of email marketing and Facebook ads to grow the Facebook fan base from 30 to 2,500 fans.

• Provided leadership to the nine other Account Executives in the Seattle territory by helping each team member assess daily sales activities and prescribing behavioral/functional adjustments to help struggling representatives meet quota. Encouraged and motivated other team members upon the request of the Direct Sales Manager.

• Planned the dispatching function for a new Purchasing Office.  Inspected trucking routes to 25 lumberyards and negotiated a 15% price reduction with six freight vendors.

• Changed the vendor fee structure to save an additional $25,000 per year by clearly defining the fees paid for fuel surcharges (tied fees to national average cost of diesel).

• Led the resolution of a long-standing issue with lumberyard managers regarding poor communication.  Formalized the procurement process by mandating faxed pick-up confirmations be sent to managers five days in advance of delivery resulting in a 95% decrease in complaints.
